Position Overview

Buckhorn Resources is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Reservoir Engineer to join our Houston team. This is an entry-level position with significant on-the-job training and is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career engineer interested in learning about the oil & gas industry, mineral and royalty investing, and energy markets.

The successful candidate will work closely with Buckhorn’s investment team to evaluate acquisition opportunities and monitor existing assets. The role provides exposure to reservoir engineering, production analysis, economics, land, geology, mapping, and investment underwriting
.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate mineral and royalty acquisition opportunities across the Lower 48, with a focus on the Permian, Eagle Ford, and Haynesville.
  • Analyze well performance using decline curve analysis, production data, type curves, and completion characteristics.
  • Build production forecasts and economic models to evaluate potential acquisitions.
  • Analyze lease operating statements, well-level financial data, ownership interests, taxes, differentials, and other commercial information.
  • Build and maintain Combo Curve databases, including production forecasts, ownership interests, taxes, differentials, and economic assumptions.
  • Create and maintain ArcGIS maps to analyze land positions, existing and future wells, permits, rig activity, and operator activity.
  • Monitor drilling and development activity across Buckhorn’s areas of interest.
  • Maintain and analyze production and economic data for company-owned mineral and royalty assets.
  • Assist with due diligence and other analytical work related to acquisitions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical and analytical concepts.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 0–5 years of experience; recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including basic formulas, sorting, filtering, and formatting.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new software, including Combo Curve, ArcGIS, and other industry-specific tools.
  • Strong interest in the oil & gas industry and energy markets.
  • Takes ownership of work and can operate independently with limited supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical and analytical concepts.
