Clayton Services is seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to join a growing engineering and manufacturing organization in Downtown Houston specializing in custom industrial equipment and engineered systems. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically inclined engineer who enjoys designing customized equipment, collaborating with manufacturing teams, and seeing projects through from concept to completion.
The ideal Mechanical Project Engineer is a hands‑on engineer who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and enjoys solving complex design challenges while working closely with project managers, suppliers, fabrication partners, and customers. This position offers the opportunity to work on highly customized equipment while contributing throughout the entire product lifecycle, from design through installation and startup.
Job Type: Direct Hire
Pay Rate: $120,000 - $155,000, depending on experience

Mechanical Project Engineer Responsibilities:- Design and develop custom mechanical equipment and engineered systems to meet customer and project requirements.
- Create detailed 3D models, manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, and Bills of Materials using Solid Works.
- Develop mechanical layouts, equipment assemblies, structural supports, piping interfaces, and fabricated components for custom industrial applications.
- Review customer specifications and translate project requirements into practical, manufacturable engineering solutions.
- Collaborate with project managers, manufacturing personnel, suppliers, and other engineering disciplines throughout project execution.
- Prepare complete drawing packages for fabrication, assembly, procurement, and production.
- Support supplier selection by reviewing technical capabilities, evaluating quotations, and answering engineering questions throughout the manufacturing process.
- Coordinate design revisions and engineering changes while maintaining accurate project documentation.
- Evaluate designs for manufacturability, reliability, serviceability, safety, and long‑term performance.
- Provide engineering support during fabrication, equipment assembly, factory testing, installation, and commissioning activities.
- Assist with troubleshooting mechanical issues and developing practical solutions to support project schedules.
- Participate in design reviews and recommend improvements that enhance product quality, manufacturability, and overall project execution.
- Travel periodically to supplier facilities, manufacturing partners, customer locations, and project sites as required.
Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced proficiency with Solid Works and the ability to produce accurate manufacturing and fabrication drawings.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, industrial equipment, fabrication methods, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to develop practical engineering solutions while balancing project schedules, manufacturing requirements, cost considerations, and customer expectations.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills with the ability to identify issues and develop effective technical solutions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with engineering teams, suppliers, customers, and manufacturing personnel.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative engineering environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high‑quality engineering documentation.
