Commissioning Technician

BP Energy is seeking a Commissioning Technician to support Engineering, Maintenance & Asset Management activities in our Energy & Utilities operations. You will execute commissioning, start up, and functional testing of mechanical, electrical, and control systems, ensuring safe and reliable operation in line with BP standards. Responsibilities include reviewing drawings and procedures, performing field checks, troubleshooting issues, documenting results, and collaborating with engineering and operations teams.

This role operates within BP's strong safety culture and offers growth through training, mentorship, and exposure to low carbon and renewable projects.

Responsibilities

• Execute commissioning, startup, and performance testing of new and upgraded energy assets, instrumentation, and control systems for BP Energy facilities.
• Perform loop checks, functional testing, and calibration of field instruments, analyzers, and control devices to verify correct installation and operation.
• Support commissioning of PLC/DCS systems, including I/O verification, logic confirmation, alarm testing, and system troubleshooting.
• Conduct electrical and mechanical pre-startup checks on equipment such as pumps, compressors, valves, and MCCs, ensuring readiness for safe energization.
• Work closely with engineering, construction, maintenance, and operations teams to review designs, resolve field issues, and implement changes safely and efficiently.
• Follow BP's safety management systems and procedures, actively participate in risk assessments and toolbox talks, and stop work when unsafe conditions are observed.
• Document all commissioning results, test records, punch lists, and as-built information to support accurate handover to operations and maintenance teams.
• Identify and troubleshoot issues discovered during commissioning, proposing practical technical solutions and working with vendors and OEMs as needed.
• Support integration of low-carbon and renewable energy solutions into existing assets, ensuring systems operate reliably and efficiently.
• Provide practical feedback to engineering and asset management teams to improve design standards, maintainability, and lifecycle performance of equipment.
• Train and coach operators and maintenance technicians on new systems and equipment, contributing to a culture of continuous learning and cross-functional collaboration.
• Travel to various BP Energy and partner sites as needed, working in field and plant environments while upholding BP's standards for integrity, inclusion, and teamwork.
