Mechanical Designer – New Product Development (Modular Data Center Infrastructure)
Come join us at SLB New Energy & Industrial and be part of a global company driving energy innovation for a balanced planet.
SLB New Energy & Industrial (NEI) is a division of SLB; our portfolio includes ventures in carbon capture and sequestration, geothermal power, energy storage, sustainable battery‑grade lithium, hydrogen, and Data Center Infrastructure Solutions.
Our Data Center Infrastructure Solutions business provides innovative and cost-effective solutions that enable building faster, smarter and more resilient data centers. Our modular infrastructure solutions scale AI and cloud computing capacity while minimizing capital risk and deployment delays. From design and supply chain to commissioning and operations, by standardizing components and relocating labor to controlled offsite environments, we help reduce costs, improve lead times, and lower construction risk while ensuring quality and global repeatability.
SLB is seeking a motivated Mechanical Designer to join our New Product Development (NPD) team focused on the development of next‑generation modular data center infrastructure solutions. This role will support the design and development of containerized and prefabricated systems used to deploy hyperscale and AI data centers.
The Mechanical Designer will be responsible for creating detailed 3D models, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, equipment layouts, and manufacturing documentation supporting new product development efforts. The successful candidate will work closely with Mechanical Engineers, Structural Engineers, Manufacturing, and Product Development teams to transform concepts into production‑ready designs.
The ideal candidate has experience designing skid‑mounted systems, E‑Houses, modular buildings, battery energy storage systems (BESS), shipping container modifications, or other large industrial assemblies.
Roles And Responsibilities- Develop detailed 3D CAD models and assemblies using Solid Works and/or Creo.
- Create fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, weldment drawings, and manufacturing packages.
- Prepare detailed equipment layouts for modular and containerized data center systems.
- Design structural framing, equipment supports, mounting arrangements, cable tray supports, access platforms, and mechanical integration features.
- Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and drawing packages.
- Support engineering teams with concept modeling and design development activities.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and fabrication teams to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and cost‑effective.
- Support prototype build and manufacturing activities by resolving design issues and implementing design improvements.
- Prepare engineering change documentation and drawing revisions.
- Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback into released designs.
- Develop components, assembly, and installation drawings in accordance with company drafting standards.
- Ensure compliance with applicable drafting, GD&T, fabrication, and manufacturing standards.
- Support value engineering and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist with physical measurements, prototype evaluations, and fit‑up verification activities.
- Develop designs that consider transportation, lifting, installation, and field service requirements.
- Coordinate with multiple disciplines to ensure accurate integration of mechanical, structural, electrical, and cooling equipment within modular platforms.
- Associate's Degree, Technical Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Drafting, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical design or product design.
- Advanced proficiency with Solid Works and/or Creo.
- Experience creating detailed fabrication and manufacturing drawings.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing standards.
- Experience developing large assemblies and complex equipment layouts.
- Experience with weldments, sheet metal, structural members, and fabricated assemblies.
- Familiarity with manufacturing, machining, welding, fabrication, and assembly processes.
