EHS teams are comprised of three distinct disciplines that support our EHS Management System and processes at project sites and offices. These teams include environmental scientists, safety specialists, and industrial hygiene scientists. Collectively, they provide technical guidance and perform planning, risk assessment, inspections and monitoring, training, and data management.
An opportunity exists to work within the EHS team on our Lilly Houston Project located in Houston, Texas.
Job SummaryLeads the industrial hygiene (IH) program for the project, anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic health hazards associated with construction activities. Develops and executes the project exposure assessment strategy, performs and directs personal and area monitoring, interprets sampling results against applicable occupational exposure limits, and recommends engineering, administrative, and personal protective equipment controls. Provides technical direction to IH technicians and site EHS personnel, and reports to and receives functional supervision from the EHS Manager and/or EHS Services Manager.

- Develops, implements, and maintains the project Industrial Hygiene Plan, including the exposure assessment strategy, similar exposure groups, and the monitoring schedule.
- Conducts qualitative and quantitative exposure assessments for chemical, physical (noise, heat stress, vibration, radiation), biological, and ergonomic stressors associated with construction and commissioning activities.
- Performs and directs personal and area air sampling, direct-reading instrument surveys, noise dosimetry, and heat stress monitoring; ensures instruments are calibrated, maintained, and used in accordance with established methods.
- Coordinates sample submittal to accredited laboratories, validates analytical results, and interprets data against OSHA PELs, ACGIH TLVs, and Bechtel internal exposure limits.
- Recommends and verifies the effectiveness of the hierarchy of controls - elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment.
- Administers the project respiratory protection and hearing conservation programs, including qualitative and quantitative fit testing, cartridge change-out schedules, and audiometric referral.
- Reviews safety data sheets, work packages, task hazard analyses, and chemical approval requests to identify health hazards before work begins.
- Supports the project hazard communication, asbestos, lead, silica, hexavalent chromium, beryllium, and confined space entry programs as applicable to the scope of work.
- Provides notification of monitoring results to affected workers and supervision as required by regulation, and maintains exposure records in accordance with corporate record retention requirements.
- Develops and delivers industrial hygiene training and toolbox content for craft, supervision, subcontractors, and client personnel.
- Provides technical direction, mentoring, and work assignments to IH technicians and supporting EHS staff; reviews their work for technical accuracy.
