Mechanical Superintendent

The Mechanical Superintendent oversees mechanical construction and maintenance activities for data center projects, with a primary focus on the DFW area. This role requires strong computer skills and a solid mechanical and construction background, ideally within data centers, to ensure mechanical systems such as process piping, chillers, water cooling systems, CRAH units, and related infrastructure are installed and commissioned to high standards.

The position involves on-site leadership, coordination across teams and vendors, and occasional travel to other project locations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise mechanical construction and maintenance activities for data center projects, ensuring work is executed safely and efficiently.
  • Oversee project delivery to ensure mechanical scopes are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with specifications and engineering standards.
  • Lead and coordinate mechanical crews and subcontractors, assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and providing day-to-day direction on site.
  • Inspect mechanical work regularly to verify compliance with engineering standards, project specifications, and safety regulations.
  • Implement and maintain quality assurance procedures to ensure high-quality installation and performance of mechanical systems.
  • Enforce safety protocols on site, conduct regular safety meetings, and promote a strong safety culture among all team members.
  • Investigate safety incidents or near misses, document findings, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop, maintain, and update work schedules for mechanical activities, aligning them with overall project timelines and milestones.
  • Coordinate with other departments and trades to integrate mechanical work with electrical, structural, and other project disciplines.
  • Manage tools, equipment, and materials required for mechanical construction, ensuring availability, proper use, and accountability.
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, P&, and technical drawings to guide installation and verify correct execution in the field.
  • Provide technical guidance on mechanical systems and installations, including HVAC equipment, process piping, air conditioning systems, and data center mechanical infrastructure.
  • Support commissioning activities for mechanical systems, including CRAH units, chillers, water cooling systems, UPS-related mechanical interfaces, and associated equipment.
  • Maintain daily logs, progress reports, and other documentation to track work performed, issues encountered, and resolutions implemented.
  • Document inspections, deficiencies, and corrective actions, ensuring accurate records for project closeout and future reference.
  • Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and contractors to secure materials and services, and ensure mechanical work meets contractual obligations.
  • Communicate with clients and stakeholders to provide updates, address concerns, and confirm that mechanical deliverables meet expectations.
  • Identify mechanical issues during construction or maintenance, analyze root causes, and implement effective solutions in a timely manner.
  • Recommend improvements or modifications to designs, methods, or processes to enhance performance, safety, or cost-effectiveness.
  • Use project management and construction software (such as Procore) and other computer-based tools to manage schedules, documentation, and communication.
  • Ensure mechanical work aligns with data center operational requirements, including reliability, redundancy, and efficient cooling performance.

Essential Skills

  • Mechanical background with hands-on experience in mechanical construction or maintenance, preferably in commercial or industrial environments.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in construction, mechanical supervision, or a similar site management role.
  • Experience as a site supervisor or in a management position overseeing field crews and subcontractors.
  • Strong proficiency with computers and construction-related software, including project management tools such as Procore.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from schedules, blueprints, schematics, and P&.
  • Demonstrated experience in commercial construction and mechanical systems installation.
  • Knowledge of data center mechanical systems, including process piping, chillers, water cooling systems, CRAH units, HVAC equipment, and air conditioning systems.
  • Understanding of MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) and MEP engineering concepts as they apply to large-scale facilities.
  • Familiarity with switch gear, UPS systems, and substation-related mechanical interfaces in data center or similar environments.
  • Strong supervisory skills, including task assignment, performance monitoring, and team coordination.
  • Solid project management capabilities, including planning, scheduling, and resource management.
  • Troubleshooting skills for mechanical systems and installations in a construction or operational setting.
  • Ability to provide accurate mechanical estimates and support budgeting for mechanical scopes of…
