Description
The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will lead the geotechnical design project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on a variety of projects, including power, electric transmission and distribution, process, corporate, healthcare, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, renewables, government, and military facilities. The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will lead the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting geotechnical plans and specifications according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.
- Lead geotechnical engineering analyses, design, and evaluation related to shallow and deep foundation systems, settlement analyses, slope stability evaluations, retaining structures, consideration of seismic effects, and earthwork.
- Lead and review engineering design calculations, reports, specifications, and construction documents, and other technical documents as needed.
- Lead work scopes, subsurface exploration oversight, and management of site investigation subcontracts.
- Lead field assignments associated with site investigation activities and in support of foundation and earthwork construction activities.
- Lead geotechnical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
- Lead and review production drawings for a variety of projects including, but not limited to: power plants, process facilities, industrial facilities, healthcare facilities, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.
- Lead geotechnical components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
- Applies strong knowledge of commonly used geotechnical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the geotechnical engineering services industry.
- Research and compile project-related data as required by the project managers.
- Update drawings provided by senior engineers to verify that corrections are made within multiple CAD-related software.
- Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the design of power, process, industrial, healthcare, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.
- Performs field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
- Quality review of geotechnical design calculations for a variety of projects and project-related data as required by the project managers to verify corrections are made to the final design submittal.
- Quality review of the construction administration, including coordination with field personnel to resolve design-related installation issues, calculations, field inspections, and testing of geotechnical systems.
- Leads field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
- Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
- Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers and contractors and develop new business opportunities.
- Manage sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits. Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.
- Manage the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.
- Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates. Report project performance.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the geotechnical engineering practice.
- Responsible for QA/QC process adherence.
- Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited program and 7 years of geotechnical engineering experience required.
- Or Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering (with a Geotechnical emphasis) from an ABET-accredited program and 6 years of geotechnical engineering experience required.
- PhD in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering (with Geotechnical emphasis) preferred.
- Field assignment time will be dependent upon project requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrate critical thinking skills.
