We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to support the detailed design and construction of a Central Processing Facility (CPF) for the South West Arkansas (SWA) Project which will produce battery quality lithium carbonate from brine. In this role you will be responsible for coordinating engineering, procurement, and construction activities to ensure the project is delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
You’ll work across multidisciplinary teams and play a key role through design, construction and commissioning.
In your role as Project Engineer, you will be part of the Project Delivery team reporting to VP Project Delivery with a focus on supporting delivery of the CPF during which, you will report to the CPF Project Manager for the SWA Project
This is a Hybrid position based in a Corporate office environment in Houston, TX. Routine collaboration across departments and project/field offices is required as well as periodic travel to field sites, sometimes in remote locations.
Responsibilities- Support and assist in the development and management of the overall project execution plan, including scope, schedule, budget, resources and risk strategies.
- Support the Project Manager and Engineering Manager in leading development of the CPF through detailed engineering, construction, commissioning, and handover to operations.
- Understand and implement established project objectives, and deliverables, in support of project success criteria, and alignment with business objectives.
- Support project governance, reporting structures, and communication protocols.
- Support management of contractor performance throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring adherence to contractual obligations.
- Ensure adherence to all project specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements for areas of project responsibility.
- Manage project risks, issues, and changes effectively, building and maintaining mitigation plans.
- Communicate effectively with the Standard Lithium team, partners, service providers and other project stakeholders.
- Monitor project progress against baseline schedule and budget and support Project Services with project reporting requirements.
- Champion a strong culture of safety and compliance, ensuring all project activities comply with Company policies and industry best practices.
- Participate in deliverable reviews, project safety reviews and constructability reviews.
- Perform additional activities as may be reasonably required by SWA project management team.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Process, or related discipline); P.Eng. or eligibility preferred.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in project engineering, with a strong focus within lithium or alternatively mineral processing operations, and/or water treatment or oil and gas experience.
- Proven track record delivering brownfield and greenfield projects from design through commissioning.
- Understanding of lithium processing technologies (e.g., spodumene conversion, brine processing, refining) is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of process design, equipment selection and plant optimization.
- Experience in working with multidisciplinary teams, EPC/EPCM contractors, and vendors.
- Deep understanding of project management principles, including scope, schedule, cost control, and risk management.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to make sound technical decisions under pressure.
