The Cryogenics Mechanical Engineer will support the space program located in Houston, Texas (77058). - Perform engineering design and analysis for cryogenic components, vacuum jacketed and warm piping systems, and associated mechanical systems.
- Develop procurement and fabrication documentation, including Statements of Work, specifications, and engineering drawings.
- Coordinate with vendors and fabricators, participate in design reviews, and witness key testing activities.
- Support facility operations for 20 K helium systems, 80 K liquid nitrogen storage, and distribution systems.
- Provide troubleshooting, maintenance guidance, and technical oversight during equipment assembly, installation, and commissioning.
- Prepare and participate in safety reviews, hazard analyses, operational procedures, and engineering review boards.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplined engineering teams and present design and technical findings.

- This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
- This position requires experience in the space industry or Department of Defense/Department of War.
- Must have a bachelor's degree in the field of mechanical engineering
. - Must have 2+ years of recent progressively responsible mechanical design work experience.
- Experience with mechanical stress analysis of pressure components, mechanical equipment design, and hands on system development.
- Knowledge of machining, welding, piping, and pipe fitting practices.
- Ability to positively interact with and support contractors, vendors, and procurement professionals.
- Cryogenic piping system design, fluid flow and heat transfer analysis, and cryogenic materials knowledge.
- Experience with cold boxes, phase separators, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, valves, and other cryogenic plant equipment.
- Familiarity with ASME BPVC VIII, ASME B31.3, NFPA, and OSHA requirements.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD and analysis tools (Creo, Solid Works, Inventor, AutoCAD, ANSYS).
- Knowledge of high vacuum systems and helium mass spec leak detection.
- Experience with design and sizing of plant components, such as heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, piping, valves, relief devices.
- Proficient with 3D modeling using Creo, Solid Works and/or AutoCAD Inventor.
- Familiarity with national building codes, NFPA and OSHA requirements.
- This position is located onsite and offers a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off; some travel may be required.
- Schedules are subject to change based on the requirements of the position and/or customer needs.
REQUIRED:
