Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a hands-on Senior Electrical Engineer to support the development of behind-the-meter power generation projects for AI data centers. This person will help design the electrical infrastructure that connects power generation assets to large-scale customer loads.
The engineer will personally develop electrical drawings, calculations, equipment requirements, cost inputs, and project schedules during the early stages of each project. This is a production-focused engineering role for someone comfortable working directly in electrical designs rather than primarily managing others.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities- Develop and maintain electrical single-line diagrams for behind-the-meter power generation projects.
- Design electrical systems that connect generation assets through medium-voltage collection systems and high-voltage substations.
- Support electrical architecture involving generator terminals, transformers, switch gear, breakers, substations, and utility interconnections.
- Perform or review electrical calculations related to fault current, short circuit, load flow, equipment duty, grounding, and arc flash.
- Help determine voltage levels, equipment ratings, transformer configurations, and substation arrangements for each project.
- Support projects involving high-voltage systems at 138 kV and above, with many applications reaching 345 kV.
- Prepare technical requirements and specifications for transformers, switch gear, breakers, substations, and other major electrical equipment.
- Coordinate with utilities regarding interconnection requirements, design standards, equipment needs, and system constraints.
- Partner with gas turbine manufacturers, equipment vendors, engineering contractors, and construction teams to resolve technical questions.
- Review contractor and vendor drawings, calculations, equipment data, and technical assumptions for accuracy.
- Identify electrical design risks, equipment limitations, scope gaps, and long-lead items early in project development.
- Build equipment lists and engineering inputs that support project cost estimates and budgets.
- Provide electrical input into project schedules, including equipment procurement, utility interconnection, design, construction, and energization milestones.
- Support concept development and pre-FEED engineering before detailed design and construction begin.
- Present electrical recommendations, risks, costs, and scheduling considerations to project leadership and customer stakeholders.
- Help create repeatable electrical design standards that can be applied across multiple power generation sites.
