Job Purpose The Engineering Services Manager is responsible for leading all engineering activities supporting WPI’s Power Generation fabrication, packaging, and equipment revamp operations. This position oversees the mechanical, electrical, controls, and application engineering functions and works closely with Sales, the Fabrication Branch Manager, Project Management, Operations, and Executive Leadership to ensure projects are technically sound, completed efficiently, and aligned with customer requirements, quality standards, schedules, and profitability objectives.

The role is also responsible for developing engineering capabilities, improving departmental efficiency, managing technical and commercial risk, and supporting the continued success and profitable growth of the Power Generation group.

Duties and Responsibilities Lead, develop, and manage the Power Generation Engineering team, including mechanical, electrical, controls, and application engineering.

Set department priorities, assign resources, manage workloads, and ensure projects are completed accurately and on schedule.

Ensure Application Engineering has the tools, pricing, and technical information needed to support Sales and produce timely, accurate quotations.

Provide technical oversight for generator packages, control systems, switch gear, fuel and cooling systems, enclosures, and related equipment.

Review customer specifications, purchase orders, proposals, and drawings to identify requirements, exceptions, risks, and commercial impacts.

Review and approve proposals, engineering drawings, bills of material, calculations, technical submittals, and design changes.

Coordinate project meetings and collaborate with Sales, Project Management, Procurement, Manufacturing, Quality, Service, customers, and suppliers throughout project execution.

Develop and maintain engineering standards, product configurations, quality procedures, inspection reports, and project-specific Inspection and Test Plans.

Ensure designs comply with customer requirements and applicable NEC, NFPA, UL, CSA, welding, fabrication, and pressure-vessel codes.

Monitor engineering schedules, capacity, project costs, margins, and departmental performance metrics.

Improve engineering productivity, product quality, standardization, project efficiency, and departmental profitability.

Manage technical and commercial risks, including change orders, warranty claims, root-cause investigations, and corrective actions.

Provide technical support during fabrication, inspection, testing, commissioning, and resolution of field issues.

Evaluate suppliers, components, and new technologies to improve reliability, cost, manufacturability, and lead times.

Evaluate used engines, generators, compressors, and related equipment, including condition, market value, and supplier pricing.

Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate engineering personnel while promoting accountability and continuous improvement.

Maintain effective communication with customers, suppliers, OEM partners, and company leadership.

Promote compliance with company safety, quality, and workplace policies.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Engineering Degree or 6 years experience in relative field

Must have 5 years of previous experience in power generator packaging

Applied certification(s) preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships.

Strong organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Experience with engineering design and analysis software, such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Solid Works, ETAP, or comparable programs.

Familiarity with ERP, project management, document control, and product lifecycle management systems is preferred.
