Oil & Gas, Process Engineer, Energy Engineer, Mechanical Engineer
The Completion Engineer is responsible for the design, planning, execution, and continuous improvement of well completion operations. This role provides technical and operational leadership throughout the completion lifecycle, with a strong focus on safe and efficient execution, stimulation optimization, well performance, capital discipline, and data accuracy. The Completion Engineer works closely with multidisciplinary asset teams, field personnel, and service providers to develop and implement completion strategies that maximize well performance and capital efficiency while continuously advancing operational best practices.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop accurate Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) estimates incorporating current completion designs, recent operational performance, efficiency gains, and service costs, with a strong focus on capital accuracy and cost control.
- Collaborate with Geoscience and Reservoir technical teams to identify structural, geological, and wellbore risks that may require modifications to stimulation design, completion strategy, or operational execution.
- Develop comprehensive completion procedures covering all phases of the operation from toe preparation through flowback, including perforating strategy, stimulation design and pump schedules, wellbore cleanout procedures, completion installation, and associated operational contingencies.
- Provide daily engineering and operational support throughout all phases of completion activity, proactively identifying risks, troubleshooting operational challenges, and recommending solutions that improve safety, execution, cost, and efficiency.
- Partner with the D&C Analyst to ensure daily completion reports and associated operational, cost, and performance data are complete, timely, and maintained to the highest standards of accuracy and data quality.
- Organize and lead multidisciplinary Design of Experiments (DOE) initiatives to evaluate stimulation variables against normalized well-performance metrics while accounting for key well-specific parameters, including well spacing, landing target, parent/child relationships, geology, and other reservoir characteristics.
- Develop economic and cost sensitivities for proposed stimulation designs and completion strategies to support technically and economically sound decision-making.
- Establish and utilize quarterly Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) with key service providers to evaluate performance, identify improvement opportunities, and drive continued gains in operational efficiency, reliability, and cost effectiveness.
- Evaluate service-provider performance and provide recommendations based on safety performance, service quality, operational execution, technical capability, reliability, and competitive cost structure.
- Drive the development, implementation, and standardization of completion best practices, with particular emphasis on safe and efficient zipper-frac operations, well swaps, continuous operations, and reduction of nonproductive time.
- Identify, evaluate, and implement completion optimization opportunities that improve stimulated feet per day, equipment utilization, pumping efficiency, cycle time, and overall capital efficiency without compromising well performance or operational integrity.
- Prepare standardized End-of-Well Reviews documenting operational performance, successes, challenges, nonproductive time, lessons learned, and actionable opportunities for future improvement.
- Maintain rigorous capital tracking and reconciliation, ensuring field costs, accruals, and accounting costs are accurately captured and evaluated against AFE expectations and forecasts.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence by capturing lessons learned, communicating best practices across the organization, and ensuring successful improvements are incorporated into future completion designs and operating procedures.
- 10+ years of relevant oil and gas industry experience, preferably with an E&P company.
- Experience with conventional and unconventional completions and fracturing operations is required.
- Design of Experiments (DOE) experience in unconventional reservoirs.
