HX5 is currently seeking a Laboratory Test Technologist, Engineering Technologist III to join our team with NASA at Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, TX. The Advanced Materials Laboratory (AML) provides test services for evaluating and evaluating materials and developing hardware for aerospace and industrial applications.
The AML Test Technologist will support NASA’s long-duration space exploration missions through the JETS Contract working in the Crew and Thermal Systems Division at the Johnson Space Center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Perform routine and non-routine tests and analyses in the following areas:
- Mechanical testing
- Physical property
- Thermal, vacuum, and electrical measurements
- Failure analysis
- Calculate test results, populate spreadsheets, and compile results in word document tables
- Work with Lab Manager on test design and build-up to meet project needs
- Procure parts, supplies, and lab equipment.
- Maintain and update job hazard analysis (JHAs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for lab equipment, perform safety walkthroughs
- Maintain laboratory equipment in a ready-to-use status
- Preventative Maintenance
- Calibration Processing
- Safety Documentation
- Perform other duties as required

- Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of 2- 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
- Experience working in a laboratory environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrates a strong safety mindset in all testing and laboratory activities.
- Proficient using Microsoft Office.
- Able to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules.
- Able to work unsupervised for long periods of time.
- Familiar with JSC organizations, processes, and procedures.
- Familiar with materials and soft goods used in space hardware applications.
- Familiar with machine shop operations.
- Familiar with the following equipment:
- Tension and Compression Force Test Machines
- Thermal Conductivity Test Machines
- Oxygen Flammability Testers
- Vacuum Chamber Systems
- Liquid Nitrogen Test Equipment
- Laser Etching and Cutting Machines
- Added Manufacturing 3-D Printers
- Abrasion Test Equipment
This is a full-time position and offers a 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off).
