Primary Services is actively recruiting for a Trading Accountant to support a major player in the energy trading industry. This is a great opportunity for a finance or accounting professional with deep knowledge of trading operations and a drive for process optimization. You’ll work across departments—Middle Office, Tax, Operations, and Audit—to ensure deal accuracy, support IFRS reporting, and provide financial insight into complex commodity transactions.

Responsibilities

• Review trading system outputs and collaborate with Operations to ensure accurate deal capture and ERP uploads.
• Analyze profitability and explain variances in trading desk results.
• Review accruals, invoices, and PL accuracy for the shipping business.
• Reconcile inter-company balances and support quarterly reporting requirements.
• Respond to SOX and audit-related inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
• Assist with transfer pricing analysis in coordination with Tax and External Contractors.
• Support ad hoc accounting functions, including journal entries, vendor setups, and expense reviews.
• Mentor junior team members and review journal entries and reconciliations.
• Lead or participate in process improvement initiatives and automation projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting.
• 5–8 years of relevant experience in the energy commodity marketing or trading industry.
• CPA or active progress toward CPA certification strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of IFRS and/or US GAAP, with a focus on mark-to-market accounting.
• Experience with general ledger, trial balance, financial statements, and reconciliations.
• Familiarity with SOX compliance and audit procedures.
• Proficiency with ERP systems and digital tools such as Power
  
  BI, VBA, and Python is a plus.
• Ability to work overtime during peak periods.
