Job Description & How to Apply Below
Our client is expanding their team to support ongoing transformation initiatives. They are looking for an actuarial developer who enjoys building code, models, and scalable solutions.
This role is ideal for someone with strong hands-on coding experience, particularly in Python, who has been directly involved in building or maintaining actuarial or financial models. If your background leans more toward programming and automation than updating off-the-shelf actuarial software, this role is likely a strong fit.
This role is onsite 5x/week in our client's Houston-area office.
Responsibilities- Build, develop, and maintain actuarial and financial models used across pricing, ALM, valuation, capital, and strategic initiatives
- Act as a technical contributor on model design, structure, and optimization
- Develop automated, well-governed processes with appropriate controls
- Support the implementation and enhancement of an internal reserving platform
- Perform and document model validations
- Partner closely with finance, risk, and investment teams on existing and prospective reinsurance treaties
- Review and challenge modeling work prepared by colleagues, including teams in other jurisdictions
- Clearly communicate model capabilities and limitations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Finance, or similar
- 2-5 years of experience (flexibility beyond this for exceptional profiles)
- Demonstrated hands-on coding experience, ideally in Python (SQL/R a plus)
- Experience building or maintaining models, tools, or pipelines
- Strong Excel skills; VBA experience helpful
- Exposure to life and/or annuity products, reinsurance, valuation, or financial reporting
- Familiarity with object-oriented programming and automation concepts
- Clear communicator with strong analytical judgment and attention to detail
- Self-directed, collaborative, and comfortable operating in a growing, technical environment
- Cloud experience (AWS or Azure)
- Familiarity with US STAT, Bermuda, or other solvency-based reserving regimes
- Real ownership in a modern actuarial data and modeling build
- Broad exposure across actuarial, finance, risk, and investments
- Strong runway for growth for technically inclined actuarial professionals
- On-site collaboration with a lean, high-impact team
