Position OverviewGeorgetown Manor, Inc. is seeking a highly capable and hands-on Corporate Controller to lead all financial operations across a multi-location furniture retail organization and approximately 10 related real estate and trust entities.
This is a working leadership role within a lean accounting department of three team members (Controller, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable). The Controller is directly involved in day-to-day accounting activities, financial close, and reporting, while also providing strategic financial insight and guidance to ownership.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise, operational awareness, and a proactive, roll-up-your-sleeves approach suited to a privately held, multi-entity environment.
Key Responsibilities- Direct and actively participate in all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, fixed assets, and inventory accounting
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for all operating and related entities
- Manage consolidated financial reporting across multiple companies and ownership structures
- Ensure proper revenue recognition, cost allocation, and intercompany accounting
- Develop and maintain financial dashboards, KPIs, and management reporting for ownership
- Lead annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes
- Provide variance analysis and actionable performance insights
- Support strategic planning, capital investments, and expansion initiatives
- Monitor cash flow, working capital, and financing requirements
- Maintain financial records and reporting for real estate holdings and trust structures
- Oversee lease accounting, property-level reporting, and entity compliance
- Manage intercompany transactions, distributions, and ownership reporting
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls across all entities
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and reporting requirements
- Coordinate external audits, tax preparation, and lender reporting
- Maintain banking relationships and ensure compliance with loan covenants
- Oversee insurance programs (property & casualty, medical) and financial risk management
- Manage and facilitate external audits, including state sales tax audits
- Serve as the working leader of a three-person accounting department, directly performing and overseeing core accounting activities
- Participate personally in financial close, reconciliations, consolidations, and reporting processes
- Establish efficient workflows and clear accountability within a small, high-performing team
- Lead the evaluation, selection, and implementation of a new accounting software platform
- Improve systems, workflows, and financial processes to support growth and scalability
- Partner with operations leadership to drive profitability and performance improvement
- Serve as a trusted financial advisor to ownership
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with leadership responsibility
- Experience managing multi-entity financial structures
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
- Advanced proficiency in accounting systems and Excel
- Demonstrated success in a hands-on accounting leadership role
- Experience in retail, furniture, or multi-location operations
- Experience in family-owned or privately held businesses
