Our client, a healthcare and education non-profit organization based in Houston, TX, is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who will play a critical role in ensuring the continued financial health and sustainability of the organization by leading the financial functions. This position oversees financial functions that include general ledger, monthly close, accounts payable, treasury, budgeting, forecasting, and ensuring that reported results and processes comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

- Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and Board of Directors on financial planning, sustainability, and long-term organizational growth.
- Develop and execute financial strategies that support the organization’s mission and, clinical and educational services.
- Participate as a key member of the executive leadership team, contributing to organizational strategy and decision-making.
- Issue timely and accurate financial statements; lead the preparation of the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
- Prepare financial management reports in conjunction with the organization’s audit partner including annual audits, tax returns (Form 990) and regulatory reports.
- Oversee annual budgeting process and periodic long-term forecasting.
- Continually investigate, evaluate, and collaboratively introduce process improvements throughout the organization.
- Oversee tuition and related school reimbursement collection and work in coordination with the development department regarding contribution revenue.
- Production of the annual and monthly budgets and actual variance reporting; evaluate and understand the variances to budget before issuing financial statements.
- Work with Board Treasurer to submit and present financial reports to the board.
- Manage the daily cash position including maintaining accurate cash projections ensuring enough cash on hand for operations and informing CEO, Board of Directors, and Foundation Board of Trustees of cash needs from the organization’s foundation. Cash projections are developed for multi-year, full year, and monthly periods.
- Develop and maintain internal controls, financial policies, and risk management practices.
- Serve as primary relationship manager with the organization’s auditors and lead the external audit process.
- Support the organization’s board of directors, board of trustees and department directors with in-depth analysis and preparation of financial reports.
- Ensure bank reconciliations are prepared ahead of monthly financial statements.
- Oversee financial management of grants, contracts, and restricted funds, ensuring compliance with funder requirements.
- Oversee IT needs and planning for the organization, including management of the organization’s contracted vendor.
- Ensure effective financial systems, technology, and processes are in place to support organizational efficiency.
- Oversee 403B plan and compliance.
- Oversees Facility Compliance and Privacy Program.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
- CPA certification is preferred
- 8+ years of progressive financial leadership experience preferably in a non-profit setting
- Demonstrated experience with nonprofit accounting, audits, budgeting, and financial reporting
- Strong proficiency in Excel and Financial systems
