Overview
We are seeking a highly seasoned and detail‑oriented Project Accountant to support a large‑scale IT divestiture initiative. This is a high‑visibility, fast‑paced role requiring exceptional financial accuracy, adaptability, and the ability to operate within a complex program environment involving multiple work streams, shifting priorities, and senior‑level stakeholders.
This position functions as a dual Project Accountant / Project Coordinator role, with project accounting as the primary focus. The ideal candidate is comfortable toggling between deep financial analysis, cost governance, and supporting the Program Manager with executive‑ready materials, schedule alignment, and project coordination tasks during lighter accounting periods.
Key Responsibilities
1. Budget Management & Financial Oversight
* Develop and maintain the integrated budget model for the IT divestiture initiative.
* Track actuals vs. forecast across multiple work streams.
* Monitor burn rate, cost variances, and funding utilization.
* Support reforecast cycles, funding adjustments, and executive-level financial reviews.
* Prepare financial summaries and reporting for leadership and governance forums.
2. Cost Classification & Accounting Rigor
* Accurately classify costs (Cap Ex vs. OpEx, one‑time vs. run‑rate, synergy vs. dis‑synergy).
* Ensure alignment with accounting policies, financial controls, and audit requirements.
* Provide and maintain documentation required for compliance reviews.
* Partner with Finance and Controllership groups on reporting and cost alignment.
3. Divestiture Financial Modeling
* Support cost carve‑out modeling and scenario analysis.
* Track TSA-related financial impacts (if applicable).
* Monitor financial impacts and dis‑synergies across the separation lifecycle.
4. Program & PMO Support
* Work closely with the Program Manager to align financial timelines with program schedules.
* Track milestone dependencies and support gate review readiness.
* Assist in maintaining financial inputs in the integrated plan.
* Identify financial risks, gaps, and escalation areas.
* Be able to shift into coordination tasks as needed during lighter accounting periods.
5. Reporting & Executive Communications
* Build polished, executive‑ready PowerPoint decks summarizing:
o Budget status
o Actuals and cost trends
o Financial risks and exposure
o Funding gaps
* Prepare structured monthly reporting packages and assist with leadership communications.
6. Tool Proficiency & Planning Support
* Maintain financial tracking in Microsoft Excel and integrated reporting tools.
* Use Microsoft Project to align cost phasing with milestones and track financially critical path activities.
* Support earnings‑based or progress‑based reporting as needed.
* Develop clear, concise visuals for executive audiences.
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
* 5+ years of project accounting experience supporting large, complex programs.
* Strong understanding of:
o Cap Ex/OpEx classification
o Accruals, forecasting, cost center structures
o Financial controls and audit requirements
* Proficiency with Apptio (IBM tool).
* Advanced Excel capabilities.
* Experience using Microsoft Project.
* Strong PowerPoint skills with experience building leadership‑level presentations.
* Ability to pivot between accounting and coordination tasks as program needs shift.
* High accuracy under pressure - there are peak periods with no room for mistakes.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience supporting divestitures, carve‑outs, or large transformation programs.
* Familiarity with regulated or compliance‑heavy environments.
* ERP experience (Costpoint, SAP strongly preferred).
* Experience supporting PMO governance structures.
* CPA or progress toward certification (optional).
