Corporate Controller (CPA) | Multi-Location Retail | Path to CFO
Stable, financially sound, family-owned company is hiring a hands-on Corporate Controller (CPA) to lead all accounting and financial operations across a multi-location retail business. You’ll be deeply involved in day-to-day accounting, close, and reporting, while serving as a trusted financial partner to ownership. - Lead and actively perform core accounting operations (GL, A/R, A/P, payroll, fixed assets, inventory)
- Own monthly/quarterly/annual close and financial statements across all entities
- Manage consolidations across multiple companies and ownership structures
- Ensure accurate revenue recognition, cost allocation, and intercompany accounting
- Build/maintain dashboards, KPIs, and management reporting for ownership
- Lead annual budgeting and periodic forecasting
- Deliver variance analysis and actionable business insights
- Support strategic planning, capital investments, and growth initiatives
- Monitor cash flow, working capital, and financing needs
- Maintain reporting for real estate holdings and trust structures
- Oversee property/lease accounting and entity compliance
- Manage intercompany transactions, distributions, and ownership reporting
- Strengthen internal controls across entities
- Ensure GAAP and tax/reporting compliance
- Coordinate audits, tax preparation, lender reporting, and banking relationships
- Ensure compliance with loan covenants
- Oversee insurance programs (property/casualty/medical) and risk management
- Evaluate, select, and help implement a new accounting software platform
- Improve workflows and processes to support growth and scalability
- CPA required
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Accounting/Finance
- 7+ years progressive accounting experience with leadership responsibility
- Experience managing multi-entity structures
- Strong GAAP knowledge and financial reporting skills
- Inventory accounting experience (
LIFO knowledge
) - Advanced Excel + accounting systems proficiency
- “Roll-up-your-sleeves” mindset: comfortable doing the work, not just reviewing it
- Multi-location retail (furniture, restaurant, clothing, etc.)
- Background in family-owned / privately held businesses
- Public accounting candidates with retail clients are welcome
- Lead a small accounting team (A/P + A/R); potential to add an accountant over time
- High visibility with ownership and operations leaders
