Duties
Evaluate quality and compliance of loans originated by residential mortgage lender, including the following specific activities, as assigned.
- Use QC software to perform pre-closing testing of mortgage loan files for quality and adherence to underwriting guidelines of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, USDA, MI companies and private lenders, including reverification of information as required. Classify discrepancies according to company definitions as moderate or significant.
- Coordinate with underwriting, closing and branch staff to resolve issues identified in the testing, if possible.
- Review loans in default or for which repurchase is requested and work with operations staff to resolve the issues if possible.
- Prepare monthly QC reports to provide to operations manager, branch managers and executive management.
- Identify loan issue trends that may indicate a need for training and/or enhanced systems controls and develop an action plan for implementing the same.
- Consult with operations staff regarding red flags indicating fraud or misrepresentation.
- Review and work with operations staff to resolve loan level audit findings from 3rd parties, including regulators, loan purchase investors and MI companies.
- Perform branch audits per FHA requirements.
- Assist manager to maintain QC policies and procedures up-to-date with applicable requirements.
- Experience:
At least 2 years’ experience with residential mortgage underwriting, operations, compliance or QC. QC review experience preferred. LAPP and DE highly preferred. - Proficiency with Microsoft Office products; familiarity with mortgage loan origination systems and consumer lending QC software.
- Knowledge of underwriting, closing and compliance requirements of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, USDA and MI companies.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with operations team leaders.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize effectively.
- Education:
Prefer 2 years or more of college, but work experience can substitute.
The job requires working on a computer for approximately 8 hours per day; responding to emails and telephone calls and leading virtual meetings.
