Position: State and Local Indirect Tax - Property Tax Manager
Location: Houston, TX
PwC’s State and Local Indirect Tax team focuses on providing strategic advice and guidance on value‑added tax, goods and services tax, sales tax, and other indirect taxes. This role blends technology‑enabled tax solutions with client relationship management to optimize clients’ indirect tax positions while fostering the development of team members.
Responsibilities- Lead technology‑enabled tax advisory engagements
- Supervise, develop, and coach teams
- Manage client service accounts and drive assigned engagement work streams
- Solve and analyze complex problems to deliver top‑quality deliverables
- Cultivate meaningful client relationships
- Inspire team members and navigate ambiguity
- Uphold PwC’s quality standards
- Contribute to the firm’s purpose, principles, and business strategies
- Analyse and identify linkages and interactions between the component parts of an entire system
- Take ownership of projects, ensuring successful planning, budgeting, execution, and completion
- Partner with team leadership to ensure collective ownership of quality, timelines, and deliverables
- Develop skills outside your comfort zone and encourage others to do the same
- Effectively mentor others
- Use review of work as an opportunity to deepen team members’ expertise
- Address conflicts or issues, engaging in difficult conversations with clients, team members and stakeholders, escalating where appropriate
- Uphold and reinforce professional and technical standards, the firm’s code of conduct, and independence requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- 4 years of experience
- CPA, Member of the Bar or other tax, technology, or finance‑specific credentials may qualify for this opportunity
- Juris Doctorate in Taxation preferred
- Thorough knowledge of state and local tax laws
- Proficiency in tax planning and restructuring
- Experience in audit defense and state controversy work
- Familiarity with sales and use tax implications on FAS 5
- Proficiency in tax compliance automation tools
- Client relationship management skills
- Proven leadership in supervising and coaching teams
- Knowledge of automation and digitization in tax services
The salary range for this position is $99,000 – $266,000, plus individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. PwC offers a wide range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), holiday pay, vacation, personal and family sick leave, and more.
