PositionSummary
The Senior Tax Consultant supports DMA clients through Sales & Use Tax audit defense, reverse audits, and over payment recovery engagements. The role involves diving deep into transactional data, identifying refund opportunities, performing multi‑state tax research, collaborating with taxing authorities, and delivering measurable savings to clients. It is designed for audit professionals already experienced in Texas or Louisiana sales tax audits who wish to expand their Sales & Use tax expertise while focusing on audit, recovery, and advisory work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Prepare for reviews, including researching and developing a review plan.
- Work with client data to verify control totals, reconcile reported tax, and analyze audit populations and sample selections.
- Obtain source documentation from client systems and review client documents relating to transaction taxes (invoices, purchase orders, tax returns, details, and audits).
- Create schedules of invoices and/or other documents as required.
- Research and enter data regarding tax exemptions into the system.
- Research transaction tax questions and issues.
- Prepare transaction tax refund requests to be submitted to states and/or vendors.
- Negotiate with state auditors during refund processing and audit appeals.
- Prepare updates and reports of findings for clients.
- Prepare required administrative information for the Regional Director, including WIP maintenance, job‑cost hours entry, backlog days, forecasting, etc.
- Travel to client locations as needed.
- Identify and collect data on prospective clients.
- Analyze potential opportunities.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- 3–5 years in the sales tax field with a focus on audits.
- Sales & Use Tax audit experience preferred.
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience researching tax questions and issues and working directly with auditors and taxing authorities.
- Demonstrated problem‑solving, verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with professionals at all levels.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring employment‑based visa sponsorship now or in the future. This position does not qualify for employment‑based sponsorship.
- Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Travel as required (approximately 5%).
