REPORTS TO:CFO
COMPENSATION:$200k – $240k + bonus + MIP
LOCATION:Houston, TX - West Houston (4-5 days a week on site)
Company:A private equity-backed construction services platform is expanding rapidly through acquisitions and organic growth across multiple U.S. regions.
Purpose Of Your Position:The Controller/VP Accounting will partner closely with the CFO to modernize and scale the accounting organization as the business grows through acquisitions and operational expansion.
This role will oversee accounting operations across multiple operating units while leading key initiatives around process improvement, system implementation, and financial standardization. The position requires a hands‑on leader capable of building infrastructure, strengthening the team, and aligning financial reporting with operational execution.
Primary Responsibilities:- Lead the evolution of the accounting organization from decentralized processes toward a more centralized and scalable operating model.
- Oversee accounting operations across multiple operating units and legal entities, ensuring consistent financial practices and reporting standards.
- Partner with executive leadership to design the long-term structure and capabilities of the finance and accounting function.
- Direct the implementation and rollout of a modern ERP platform to create improved reporting visibility and standardized data across the enterprise.
- Manage revenue recognition in a contract-driven environment utilizing cost-based progress accounting methodologies under applicable accounting guidance.
- Support acquisition integration activities, including onboarding newly acquired businesses and aligning financial processes and reporting.
- Assess current organizational structure and determine optimal accounting team design between centralized functions and business-unit-level resources.
- Develop and mentor key members of the finance organization, including senior accounting and FP&A leaders.
- Work closely with operational leaders and project managers to ensure financial reporting accurately reflects project performance.
- Oversee financial close processes and reporting cadence to executive leadership and ownership stakeholders.
- Lead audit readiness and coordination with external accounting advisors as required.
- Drive adoption of improved reporting and analytics tools to enhance financial and operational decision making.
- Travel periodically to operating locations to build relationships and understand business drivers across regions.
- 15+ years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience
- Experience operating in a private equity-backed portfolio company environment
- Background in construction, project-based services, or adjacent industries
- Strong knowledge of percentage-of-completion / contract accounting methodologies
- Experience supporting acquisition integrations or multi-entity consolidation environments
- Prior experience leading ERP or financial systems implementations
- Proven ability to build or scale accounting teams and operational finance infrastructure
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with operational leadership
