Job Description & How to Apply Below

CPA - Tax Planner & Wealth Advisory Lead | Allied Wealth | The Woodlands, Texas

On-site role in The Woodlands. Compensation is highly competitive and based on experience, fit, and your needs, with a significant base salary, meaningful variable compensation, and a bonus.

Allied Wealth is building an in-house tax function inside a retirement-focused wealth firm in The Woodlands. This is not a narrow seasonal preparer seat. The firm already has clients and advisors who need stronger tax coordination; the right CPA will turn that demand into a real operating capability.

You will be the lead tax voice for pre-retirees, retirees, business-owner households, executives, and high-trust advisory clients. Returns are part of the job, but the greater value lies in connecting tax preparation, multi-year tax planning, retirement-income decisions, investment taxation, estate and legacy conversations, and advisor collaboration.

What You Will Own
  • Individual tax planning, tax preparation, return review, extensions, notices, and planning-opportunity identification for the clients Allied chooses to serve internally.
  • Plain-English client conversations around Roth conversions, RMDs, QCDs, capital gains, basis, NUA, multi-state issues, and retirement-income tradeoffs.
  • Advisor collaboration so tax questions move cleanly into retirement, income, investment, estate, and legacy-planning work.
  • The operating model for the tax lane: service boundaries, workflow, tax-season rhythm, software process, pricing logic, review standards, and future support leverage.
  • Quality-control discipline that lets the tax function grow without becoming a disconnected side channel.
Required
  • Active CPA license in good standing.
  • 3-5+ years of individual tax planning and tax preparation experience, ideally with private-client, investment-focused, retirement-planning, executive, business-owner, or multi-state complexity.
  • Hands-on ability to prepare and review Form 1040 work and use professional tax software such as Pro Series, Lacerte, Drake, or a comparable platform.
  • Client-facing communication strength and comfort in translating tax complexity into clear action for advisory clients.
  • Ability to work directly with financial advisors and connect tax work to broader retirement, income, investment, estate, and legacy planning contexts.
  • Builder appetite: willingness to define process, workflow, service scope, quality standards, and staff leverage rather than waiting for a mature department to already exist.
  • Practical availability for an on-site The Woodlands role and the pace of tax season.
Preferred
  • RIA, wealth-management, family-office, or advisory-adjacent tax background.
  • Experience with retirees, pre-retirees, business owners, executives, oil and gas, aviation, RSUs, deferred compensation, pensions, NUA, or multi-state tax issues.
  • Prior ownership of a CPA practice, tax book, tax department, or book transition where retention, relationship quality, pricing, and workflow design mattered.
  • CFP, PFS, EA, or similar planning-adjacent credentials.
  • Experience building SOPs, tax-season calendars, client document intake, review standards, delegation models, quality controls, and support-staff leverage.
This Role Is Probably Not For You If
  • You want a remote or narrow prep-only role with little client strategy or advisor collaboration.
  • Your recent work is mostly corporate accounting, audit, controllership, ASC 740, payroll, bookkeeping, or entity compliance without meaningful individual/private-client tax ownership.
  • You need a fully built department, fixed seasonal workflow, and mature staff bench before you can be effective.
  • You don't enjoy explaining tax decisions to clients and advisors in plain English.

A strong fit is a senior private-client CPA, tax manager, boutique CPA practice owner, advisory-adjacent tax lead, or rising tax supervisor who wants to move from tax production into integrated wealth-planning leadership.
