Position Description
Position Description The Staff Accountant, Finance works to prepare account reconciliations on a monthly basis. The role is also responsible for supporting a variety of month-end closing activities, such as preparing/proposing journal entries, verifying, analyzing, reconciling, and monitoring daily financial transactions and revenue collections, including interoperability revenues. This role will also support their manager with coordinating meetings and preparing documents and requests from other county departments, such as the Harris County Auditor's Office, Office of Management and Budget, etc.
This role will also support with organizing supporting documents requested from external parties, including external auditors, service providers, and consultants.
- Prepares account reconciliations
- Prepares/proposes adjusting journal entries
- Supports the Chief Budget Officer with month-end closing activities
- Assists the Finance department with coordinating meetings and pulling supporting document requests from other Harris County departments and external parties.

RequirementsEducation and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field from an accredited college or university.
- At least three (3) years of experience in accounting, finance, or related field.
- Working knowledge of GASB, financial accounting rules, regulations, and standards.
- Fundamental understanding of financial statements, general ledger accounting, revenue recognition, and account reconciliations.
- Ability to read, comprehend, interpret, and communicate details and changes as needed.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to work under instructions from supervisors and managers.
- Strong desire to learn and be a team player.
- Strong written, oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical skills. Ability to reason and solve problems independently.
- Extensive experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
Light Work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that of sedentary work and if the worker sits most of the time, the job is considered light work.

Position Type And Typical Hours Work
This is a full time position.
Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday.
Hours may vary based on the business needs of the department.
Work EnvironmentThere are no major sources of discomfort. A normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature controls and furnishings is provided.
Reporting RelationsReports to Position: Accounting Manager or equivalent
