The ideal candidate will be comfortable building and improving processes while also executing with precision. Fervo is scaling rapidly, so this role requires strong ownership, crisp communication, a controls mindset, and the ability to partner effectively across Accounting, Finance, Operations, Legal, Tax, Treasury, Commercial, and external advisors.

Requirements Responsibilities

Technical Accounting Research and Documentation

  • Prepare technical accounting memos and position papers for complex matters under US GAAP, including debt, warrants, stock compensation, derivatives, leases, impairment, going concern, tax equity and consolidation matters
  • Review contracts for embedded derivatives or leases
  • Oversee accounting for leases in accordance with ASC 842, including geothermal leases
  • Partner with Structured Finance, Operations, Legal, Commercial, Tax, and Treasury to proactively review proposed contracts and transactions and provide guidance on best practices and risk mitigation
  • Support accounting assessments for embedded derivatives in debt facilities, hedge accounting, PPAs, structured energy transactions, and other commercial arrangements
  • Evaluate accounting implications of tax equity structures, HLBV accounting, project finance agreements, and entity-level reporting requirements
  • Maintain clear, audit-ready support that documents purpose, scope, authoritative guidance, inputs, assumptions, conclusions, controls, and reviewer sign-off

Valuation, External Advisor and Audit Coordination

  • Coordinate with external valuation specialists for stock-based compensation, warrants, embedded derivatives, NCI remeasurements, and fair value analyses
  • Own completeness and accuracy of data provided to external advisors and auditors
  • Manage technical accounting PBCs, auditor questions, and review comments through resolution
  • Reduce dependency on external advisors for recurring technical matters by building internal templates, playbooks, and repeatable review procedures

Operationalization and Controls

  • Translate technical accounting conclusions into journal entries, close procedures, disclosure support, and control activities
  • Partner with Financial Reporting on 10-Q, 10-K, standalone financial statement, and disclosure support for complex areas
  • Identify automation and standardization opportunities for recurring technical accounting work streams
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with meaningful technical accounting research exposure
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and ability to research, document, and defend accounting conclusions
  • Experience preparing or reviewing technical accounting memos and audit-ready documentation
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with Legal, Finance, Tax, Treasury, Operations, Commercial, external advisors, and auditors
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort working with complex agreements, financial models, valuations, and supporting data
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple high-priority technical matters under tight reporting timelines
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • Big Four technical accounting, audit, advisory, national office, or transaction accounting experience
  • Experience with stock compensation, fair value, debt and warrants, derivatives, ASC 842 leases, tax equity, consolidations, or impairment analyses
  • Experience in energy, renewable power, infrastructure, project finance, or high-growth public-company environments
  • SOX readiness, SEC reporting, or IPO readiness experience
Location

Success Profile
  • Build audit-ready work papers and documentation that a reviewer, auditor, or backup owner can follow easily
  • Owns work end-to-end, follows up until reviewer sign-off, and escalates blockers early
  • Communicates with clear action items, deadlines, and business context
  • Uses technology, AI-enabled drafting, and automation thoughtfully while validating outputs and underlying data
  • Develops repeatable processes and cross-training so the accounting organization can scale sustainably
