Fixed Assets and Leases ManagerOBJECTIVE
The Fixed Assets and Leases Manager role is to provide oversight of all accounting operations related to fixed assets and leases (operating and finance) to ensure accurate reporting, compliance and control.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the accounting and reporting of fixed assets and leases including capitalization, depreciation, amortization and disposals.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies.
- Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close procedures related to all fixed assets and lease accounting (including disclosures related to public reporting).
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations and supporting schedules related to fixed assets, leases and other items, as necessary.
- Maintain fixed asset and lease subledgers to ensure alignment with the general ledger.
- Develop and enforce policies for asset capitalization, tagging, tracking, and lifecycle management.
- Lead physical asset inventory processes and reconcile discrepancies.
- Work with legal and operations to ensure all leases are captured and capitalized appropriately.
- Monitor capital expenditures and ensure proper classification and approval.
- Implement and maintain strong internal controls over all types of fixed asset and lease transactions.
- Support budgeting and forecasting for capital expenditures and asset-related costs.
- Provide financial insights to support capital allocation and investment decisions.
- Identify opportunities for cost optimization and asset efficiency improvements.
- Lead internal and support external audits related to fixed assets.
- Ensure compliance with SOX/internal control frameworks (if applicable).
- Maintain audit-ready documentation for all types of fixed asset and lease transactions and balances.
- Supervise and mentor accounting team members, as necessary.
- Drive process improvements and system enhancements (ERPs, fixed asset modules).
- Collaborate cross-functionally with finance, FP&A, tax, operations, and IT.
EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of accounting experience, with significant exposure to asset management.
- Ability to travel to various locations each quarter to conduct asset verification procedures.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP including ASC 842, ASC 360 and other accounting principles.
- Experience with ERP systems (Net Suite preferred) and other fixed asset modules.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial analysis.
- CPA or CMA certification preferred
- Experience in multi-entity or merger/acquisition environments preferred.
- Background in capital-intensive industries (energy, manufacturing, real estate, telecom, etc.) preferred.
- Experience with automation or system implementation projects preferred.
