The Staff Accountant is responsible for ensuring information is reconciled between all of the firm’s systems (payroll, dividends, financial, detail pay history and Human Resources/Benefits). This role also processes all dividend payments for partners throughout the year.

Duties and Responsibilities Primary
  • Calculate and process monthly and quarterly partner compensation ("dividend") payments using proprietary software, ensuring accurate deductions provided by various departments. Manage various calculations/concepts depending on partner agreement.
  • Maintain various schedules including but not limited to partner draws, loans, etc. that impact compensation. Work with Treasury Team to ensure funds are available at designated periods.
  • Calculate and process partner capital reconciliation and payments.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures, and conducts research on current accounting guidelines. Possesses experience applying policies, procedures, and research.
  • Identify and process journal entries, prepare general ledger and bank account reconciliations. Take proper action to correct reconciling items, and complete other accounting functions to ensure the accuracy of the firm’s financial statements.
  • Process general ledger import files from each dividend run, ensuring they are posted timely and accurately.
  • Ensure partner compensation expenses/deductions are processed accurately, timely and recorded properly on the ledger.
  • Maintain a calendar of deliverables to ensure deadlines are established and adhered to for various payroll and partner compensation tasks.
  • Assist with annual external audit.
  • Prepare schedules for the annual worker’s compensation audit.
  • Assist in the preparation of the insurance estimates each year.
  • Prepare plan (budget) for partner compensation and capital payments. Based on research and historical exchange rates, recommend annual compensation exchange rates.
  • Create various ad hoc requests for partners; i.e verification of compensation, etc.
Secondary
  • Provide special reporting or analysis as assigned.
  • Utilize the available financial tools to extract data and run queries to use in testing or building reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
Experience
  • Three years of experience in general ledger or financial reporting. Payroll experience a plus.
Special Knowledge
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Experience in researching and applying accounting policies and procedures.
Technical Skills
  • Knowledge of multi-system integration and data sharing, advanced Excel capability. Knowledge of Access, SQL, Aderant, and ADP Workforce Now a plus.
Attributes
  • Ability to review, understand and analyze data as well as compile the results of analysis into clear reports. Also must have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have excellent organizational and time management skills to accommodate deadline escalations and support quick turnaround of unscheduled changes and updates from multiple departments.
Qualifications
  • Ability to work proactively and independently, and manage time and multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must possess the ability to accurately perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality and diligently protect employees’ personal information.
Working Conditions
  • May be performed onsite in the Austin or Houston office, following standard business hours and occasional time-sensitive demands.
  • May be subject to time pressures and constraints, and is often dependent on input from others.
  • Long hours are required during certain times of the month and year.
