Job Summary
Murphy Oil is seeking a Financial Analyst to join our Corporate Forecast and Analysis team. This role combines traditional FP&A responsibilities with a strong focus on improving how finance operates through data, automation, and analytics. This position supports forecasting, budgeting, and executive reporting while leading efforts to modernize reporting across the Controller’s organization. The initial focus will be building and enhancing automated reporting and dashboards, with a longer-term goal of enabling faster insights and supporting more advanced analytics use cases.
The Financial Analyst will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work up to two (2) days a week remotely, as business needs allow.
- Support corporate forecasting, budgeting, and internal reporting processes
- Perform financial analysis related to business performance, capital allocation, and strategic scenarios
- Prepare and support materials for executive management and board-level reporting
- Partner with business units to improve forecasting accuracy and insights
- Build and maintain financial models to support decision-making
- Design and develop Power BI dashboards and data visualizations
- Improve data quality, consistency, and documentation across reporting processes
- Help build a more data‑driven culture within FP&A and broader finance teams
- Support longer-term efforts to enable more advanced analytics and reporting capabilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or related field
- Minimum 3 years of experience in FP&A, finance, or analytics roles
- Hands‑on experience with financial modeling, forecasting, and budgeting
- Experience building or enhancing dashboards (e.g., Power BI, Power Query)
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment
- Hybrid background in business and technology (e.g., finance + computer science)
- Experience with enterprise systems (e.g., SAP, Hyperion)
- Experience improving processes through automation (e.g., Power Automate, Copilot Studio)
- Oil and gas industry experience
- Microsoft PL-300 certification
The individual is required to follow all applicable safety precautions. Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled (i.e., indoor) environment and does not typically subject the incumbent to any hazardous/extreme elements; some positions may require regularly moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office for various needs. The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
