Job Summary

The Commercial Relationship Manager III is responsible for soliciting, negotiating, underwriting, and coordinating the closing of complex consumer, residential, equipment, SBA, commercial building, and business loans in compliance with the Bank’s lending policies and procedures; develops business checking and deposit relationships; and promotes business for the Bank by maintaining good customer relations and referring customers to appropriate staff for new services.

The position assists in attaining established Bank, region, and branch goals through active participation in sales management and officer call programs.

Essential Duties
  • Engages in business development activities and solicitation of new business; actively involved in instilling a positive sales environment through education of the Bank’s products and services.
  • Interviews prospective applicants, requests specified information related to loan or credit application, and re-interviews applicants to resolve questions.
  • Performs prequalification assessment and analysis of financial condition and risk of financing requests within the framework of Bank credit culture and current economic and industry trends.
  • Gathers and analyzes all necessary information to present a financing request to Senior Management or Loan Committee for approval; meets with existing or potential customers, visits loan sites, negotiates loan terms and conditions, and approves loans within established lending limits or makes recommendations to the Chief Credit Officer or Loan Committee.
  • Coordinates processing of approved loans, ensures they are processed according to agreement, customer needs, and Bank lending policies, obtains sufficient information and documentation from customers, solves problems related to processing and servicing of loans within the portfolio, and approves loan disbursements in accordance with agreements.
  • Researches credit inquiries and UCC filings to determine creditworthiness and appropriate collateral positioning, and ensures certification or deletion of collateral is handled by appropriate personnel.
  • Negotiates, underwrites, and processes renewals of credit facilities, approves loan payments, draws from lines of credit, and fund transfers within specified limits.
  • Reinforces superior customer service through personal example and appropriate follow-through with customers and employees.
  • Develops and maintains knowledge of financial industry, economy, market conditions, rates, vendors, and competition.
  • Represents the Bank in community, civic, and community reinvestment functions to enhance the Bank’s image and develop additional business; assists the Bank in establishing and maintaining market position.
  • Reviews NSF and overdraft reports for customers in portfolio and approves or declines such exceptions within lending limits.
  • Provides deposit and loan account ratings and cross-sells other bank products and services, referring customers to appropriate staff.
  • Updates and corresponds with legal counsel and collectors on workouts, bankruptcies, and charge-offs to ensure precautionary actions.
  • Assists in meeting annual deposit and loan growth goals and participates in internal committees assigned by Senior Management.
  • Provides leadership and training to less experienced loan officers and other staff.
  • Assists Senior Management with developing, analyzing, and finalizing complex loan agreements with large businesses.
  • Responds to inquiries or refers to the appropriate department and follows through with customers and staff.
  • Applies superior decision-making techniques, approvals, and requests consistent with policies and procedures; keeps within assigned approval limits and uses instances as employee development tools.
  • Assumes responsibility for special projects, gathers data, prepares reports for Senior Management, audits personnel, and processes complex customer transactions and inquiries.
  • Operates computer terminal or personal computer to process account activity, determine balances, and resolve problems within authority.
