Senior Advisor - Tax Accounting

The Senior Advisor – Tax Accounting will support the company’s global income tax accounting and reporting processes, with primary responsibility for U.S. GAAP income tax accounting under ASC 740. The role includes the preparation and review of the corporate income tax provision, uncertain tax positions, tax disclosures, and coordination with internal stakeholders and external auditors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review the U.S. GAAP income tax provision in accordance with ASC 740, including current and deferred tax calculations, effective tax rate analysis, and supporting schedules.
  • Translate complex tax accounting results into clear, concise storytelling for finance leadership and other non‑tax stakeholders, explaining key drivers, risks, and period‑over‑period changes in a practical, decision‑useful manner.
  • Partner with Tax Legal on Uncertain Tax Positions, supporting accounting, ASC 740 analysis, roll forward preparation, tracking, and financial statement disclosure. Maintain uncertain tax positions schedules and roll‑forwards, connecting technical analyses to accounting decisions and financial impacts.
  • Support quarterly and annual financial close processes, including tax‑related disclosures for SEC filings (e.g., 10‑Q, 10‑K).
  • Partner closely with Tax Compliance, Legal, FP&A, and Controllers to ensure accurate reflection of tax positions in the financial statements.
  • Support internal and external audit inquiries and maintain SOX‑compliant controls related to income tax accounting.
  • Interpret and apply complex tax accounting guidance, providing technical recommendations on ASC 740 matters and emerging issues.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of tax accounting processes, controls, and documentation, including standardization and automation initiatives.
  • Mentor and train junior analysts, providing technical guidance on ASC 740, tax provision processes, and documentation standards, and contributing to team development and knowledge sharing.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in a Big 4 tax accounting group, with a strong focus on income tax accounting and ASC 740.
  • Deep technical knowledge of ASC 740, including current and deferred taxes, valuation allowances, and effective tax rate analysis.
  • Demonstrated hands‑on experience with Uncertain Tax Positions, including identification, measurement, documentation, and roll‑forward tracking.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex tax and accounting guidance.
  • Experience working with external auditors and supporting audit and SOX requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to non‑tax stakeholders.
Preferred / Desired Qualifications
  • Exposure to corporate income tax return preparation or review, including book‑to‑tax adjustments and Schedule M analysis.
  • Experience in the energy industry or other asset‑intensive, regulated industries.
  • Background supporting large multinational organizations, including complex jurisdictional structures.
  • Familiarity with tax provision tools, ERP systems, and financial reporting systems (e.g., SAP, HFM, Corp Tax).
  • Solid understanding of U.S. federal corporate income tax rules.
  • CPA.
