UTHealth Houston is seeking a personable, detail-oriented Financial Support Specialist for the Student Loan Collections area of the Office of Student Financial Aid. You must be a team player with excellent customer service and communication skills. Applicants should be proficient in Excel and Microsoft Word, with an advanced skill set that includes mail merge. Accounts receivable experience is required. Student loan collections and accounts payable experience preferred.
This employee will be sitting at a front desk and will be working with people coming into the office face-to-face. This is a customer service role focused on student loans. The employee will monitor loans. He or she will make collection referrals and advise on litigation matters related to accounts. You will respond to account-related queries via phone and email. They will also serve as backup for preparing weekly deposits and making journal entries.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. It is eligible for full benefits, including healthcare coverage and an excellent State-run retirement program. The building it works in is accessible by Metro Rail or bus.
Position SummaryUnder clearly defined supervision, performs a variety of basic to moderately complex financial support tasks for assigned area. Departments may provide additional guidance with a departmental position description.
Position Key Accountabilities- Maintains, reconciles and researches accounts, financial records and/or reports.
- Prepares and reviews financial entries and support documents.
- Prepares and validates source documents and/or bank deposits.
- Resolves basic to moderately complex accounting matters and account inquiries.
- Communicates, verbally and in writing, and interacts with a range of department constituents which may include students, other UTHSC staff, agencies, vendors, UT System and/or others regarding departmental matters including financial information and documentation.
- Demonstrates ability to understand and apply University and Government Policies and Procedures to job duties.
- Assists with maintaining the storage and retrieval of records and documentation.
- May assist with preparation of annual financial reports.
- Assists with compiling data from reports using required knowledge of departmental, project, and/or university policies and procedures.
- May handle confidential information and sensitive issues.
- Other duties as assigned.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, is required.
FMS, HRMS, and/or Campus Solutions training with a passing score may be required.
Minimum EducationHigh School diploma or equivalent.
Minimum ExperienceOne (1) year related work experience required.
Physical RequirementsExerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
Security Sensitive- Position is security-sensitive pursuant to Texas Education Code 51.215 and Texas Government Code 411.094.
- Requires knowledge of critical infrastructure as defined in Texas Business and Commerce Code.
- Ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a minimum qualification.
- Personnel will be routinely reviewed for criminal history and connections to foreign adversaries as defined in 15 C.F.R.
