Controller

Clayton Services is searching for a Controller to join a financial services organization in the Houston Galleria area. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and leading the accounting team to ensure accurate and timely financial management.

Job Type: Direct Hire Pay Rate: $120,000 $ 140,000/year (depending on experience) Benefits:

• Lead and manage the daily operations of the accounting function, including oversight of general ledger activity and financial reporting
• Direct the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial statements
• Review and analyze financial data to support leadership decision-making and operational performance
• Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff while driving accountability and performance
• Maintain and enhance internal controls, policies, and procedures to improve efficiency and mitigate risk
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal financial governance standards
• Partner with executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives
• Support internal and external audit processes, including preparation of documentation and responses
• Oversee cash management, financial transactions, and balance sheet integrity
• Identify process improvement opportunities and implement scalable accounting solutions
• Collaborate cross-functionally with operations and leadership teams to support business objectives
• Participate in strategic initiatives and special projects as needed

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting within a regulated environment
• Ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven setting
• High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact across all levels of the organization
• Strong organizational and leadership skills with a hands-on approach

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• CPA or advanced certification preferred
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities
• Experience with in a financial services or highly regulated industry is required
• Background in audit, reporting, or compliance environments is a plus
