MHW Search has exclusively partnered with a well-established Real Estate Investment & Development firm. We are seeking a Head of Finance to oversee the full financial ecosystem of a private family office alongside its affiliated real estate investment platform that has transacted on over $8 billion historically in real estate investments and development. This individual will serve as a key partner to the principals, managing both investment-related financial activities and personal/family financial affairs in a highly integrated environment.

This role requires a trusted operator who can navigate complex entity structures, optimize tax strategy, and bring structure and visibility to a broad range of financial activities across investments, operating businesses, and personal holdings. The position offers direct access to decision-makers and the ability to meaningfully impact overall financial performance, liquidity, and long-term planning.

Key Responsibilities Family Office Financial Oversight
  • Oversee the consolidated financial picture across family entities, including operating businesses, real estate investments, and personal assets
  • Manage cash flow, liquidity planning, and capital allocation across the family balance sheet
  • Support principals on major financial decisions including investments, distributions, and long-term planning
  • Oversee financial management of real estate investments across multifamily and retail assets, including performance tracking and reporting
  • Monitor investment-level cash flow, returns, and overall portfolio performance
  • Review partnership structures, waterfalls, and distribution models across various investment vehicles
  • Coordinate with lenders on financing structures, debt management, and credit facilities
  • Lead comprehensive tax strategy across both family and investment entities to optimize overall tax efficiency
  • Coordinate with external CPAs and advisors on filings, structuring, and long-term planning
  • Identify opportunities to enhance tax positioning across investments, income streams, and estate planning considerations
Operations & Process Improvement
  • Evaluate and streamline financial operations across the family office, improving processes that are currently manual or fragmented
  • Implement systems, controls, and reporting frameworks to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and transparency
  • Create centralized reporting to provide real-time visibility into performance, liquidity, and obligations
Reporting & Stakeholder Coordination
  • Prepare and present consolidated financial reporting for principals, including performance summaries and forward-looking projections
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external advisors including CPAs, lenders, attorneys, and consultants
  • Ensure consistency, accuracy, and timeliness of financial information across all entities
Leadership & Team Oversight
  • Work directly with principals on strategic initiatives and financial planning
  • Oversee and support existing finance staff while improving team structure and processes
  • Foster a disciplined, detail-oriented approach to financial management across the platform
Qualifications
  • 10–15+ years of experience in finance, with significant exposure to family office, real estate, or private investment environments
  • Strong understanding of complex entity structures, partnership agreements, and investment lifecycle management
  • Deep experience with tax planning and coordination with external advisors
  • Background in real estate finance (multifamily and/or retail) preferred
  • Ability to operate in a lean, high-touch environment with a high degree of ownership and discretion
  • Strong financial modeling, analytical, and organizational skills
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and ability to manage confidential information
