Senior Research Administration Associate
The Section of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the Department of Medicine is seeking a senior research administration associate to lead the section's post-award activities.
Job Duties
- Provide expert post-award financial and programmatic guidance to faculty and leadership managing sponsored gastroenterology and hepatology research.
- Oversee the financial administration of sponsored projects, including expense monitoring, reconciliation, variance analysis, and preparation of interim and final financial reports.
- Ensure compliance with institutional policies, federal regulations, and sponsor-specific requirements.
- Manage post-award components of grants and contracts, including account setup coordination, budget modifications, no-cost extensions, and subcontract administration.
- Serve as a primary liaison between faculty, departmental leadership, Baylor College of Medicine central offices, and external sponsors to resolve post-award issues and facilitate effective grant management.
- Analyze financial and operational performance of sponsored projects; identify risks and provide recommendations to optimize financial stewardship and compliance.
- Lead and implement process improvements to enhance post-award operations, streamline workflows, and increase efficiency and service quality across the grants management lifecycle.
- Evaluate communication processes and submission quality; develop and implement standardized tools, guidance, and training resources for faculty and staff.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying gaps in policies, systems, and procedures and recommending scalable solutions aligned with institutional best practices.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree. Certified Research Administrator certification through the Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC) may substitute for the degree requirement.
- Four years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of post-award financial management, including reconciliation, effort certification, cost principles, and financial reporting.
- Experience managing subawards, amendments, carry forwards, and no-cost extensions.
- Proficiency with enterprise research administration systems and sponsor portals.
- Proven ability to work independently and serve as a subject matter expert in post-award administration.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to advise faculty, leadership, and external sponsors.
Work Authorization Requirement:
This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application and throughout the duration of employment.
