Commercial Financial Services Representative - Houston, TX

The role involves opening new deposit accounts and handling various financial services such as stop payments, wire transfers, and other maintenance functions within assigned limits. The representative will serve as the primary contact for customers, coordinate account openings, and pursue new depository and treasury management business opportunities.

Essential Functions
  • Open new deposit accounts and understand the bank’s business and treasury products, including features, benefits, rules, regulations, and pricing.
  • Serve as the primary contact between customers, retail, and treasury management to ensure seamless processes.
  • Seek new depository or treasury management business through existing portfolios and networking with new customers.
  • Provide quick, accurate, efficient, and confidential service in accordance with the bank’s Gold Customer Service Standards.
  • Address customer concerns with courtesy and discretion, escalating when necessary.
  • Assess and manage risks associated with job functions in compliance with Regulation CC, the Bank Secrecy Act, and other banking regulations.
  • Collaborate with Commercial Relationship Managers and other staff to support business development efforts.
  • Work with the consumer team to service all customers.
  • Develop a strong understanding of customer‑facing technology and enroll customers in self‑service options.
  • Expand deposit base opportunities to grow the book of business over time.
  • Initiate and/or service consumer and/or small‑business loans (BLE).
Qualifications, Education, & Certification Requirements

Education and Experience

  • High‑school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 5 years of banking experience, preferably in a customer service/sales/FSR position.
  • Previous experience managing depository relationships preferred.

OR

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or finance.
  • Minimum of 3 years of banking experience, preferably in a customer service/sales/FSR position.
  • Previous experience managing depository relationships preferred.

Certifications/Specific Knowledge

  • Familiarity with treasury management services and other banking products.
  • Strong entrepreneurial spirit to drive customer satisfaction and bank profitability.
  • Ability to form effective relationships within the organization to deliver excellent client service.
  • General banking knowledge and sound technical skills.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and compliance related to commercial banking.
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills balancing risk and shareholder value.
  • Ability to identify client depository and treasury management opportunities.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills with analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Team‑oriented with flexibility as business dictates.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and to make independent decisions.
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.

Training Requirements / Classes

  • The South State Way New Team Member Orientation.
  • Banker Foundations.
  • All assigned Regulatory Compliance Training.
  • Acknowledgement of all policies through Docu Sign as assigned.
  • Additional training may be required based on experience.

Physical Demands

Must effectively access and interpret information on computer screens and documents, and may need to stand, sit, bend, and reach for extended periods. A large amount of time will be spent in front of a computer.

Work Environment

Position may be located in an open lobby, cubicle, or private office within a cooled and heated facility. Break rooms and restroom facilities are available.

Travel may be required for meetings and training.
