What We Are Looking For
The Commercial Rotational program (January 2027 cohort) is designed to develop high-potential talent into future commercial leaders. The candidate will gain a functional knowledge of each department in which they are rotating, including Gas Scheduling, Modeling and Account Services. This includes how the department functions and their role within the gas pipelines group, and how the group interacts with other Kinder Morgan departments.
This full-time program begins in January 2027 and offers an accelerated pathway into impactful Commercial roles.
The goal is that by the end of each rotation the candidate understands the knowledge base that the position provided and how that relates to understanding the overall pipeline operations, with the end result being the candidate is highly capable of acting as a customer representative and confident in marketing the pipeline's services.
Program Structure:
* Duration:
Typically 24 months
* Rotations: 3 rotations lasting 6 months - 1 year each
* Areas of focus:
Gas Scheduling, Business Development Modeling and Account Services
What You Will Do
* Primary point of contact for customer inquiries, addressing and resolving issues related to natural gas transportation scheduling, allocations, imbalances, and overseeing daily processing activities, including executing on daily commercial activities that require nominations in third party systems.
* Lead special projects and contribute to testing efforts of DART system enhancements.
* Comply with all policies and procedures set forth by NAESB and the pipelines FERC tariff.
* Utilize technical knowledge and productivity tools to identify trends related to customer scheduling activity.
* Perform applicable contract setup, contract charge setup and discount entry in DART.
* Perform forecasting for assigned type of service for Financial Planning to report financial results to upper management.
* Calculate estimates for assigned type of service for accounting to book accruals.
* Verify accuracy of charges for assigned types of charges for transportation invoice close.
* Perform all duties necessary for month end close of KMLP.
* Analyze and respond to customer inquiries.
* Model project economics to support long-term investment decisions.
* Perform market research of announced projects, proposed developments, and regional fundamentals.
* Develop internal and external marketing materials with broader commercial team.
* Lead coordination of internal processes such as capacity reservations, agreement execution, and system design priorities.
* Other duties may be assigned and could vary by rotation.
What You Need
Education:
* Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting or related discipline required.
* Masters degree preferred
Experience/knowledge/skills:
* Minimum of 2 years of natural gas industry experience in a pipeline role (entry level) or MBA/early-career professional (for advanced track)
* Superior PC skills and strong ability to use the Microsoft Office Products with emphasis on Excel.
* Candidate will have excellent modeling skills and be able to develop data analysis tools to support Candidate's role.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work as a team.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Demonstrated leadership potential and initiative.
* Must be a motivated self-starter and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
Career Path:
* Upon successful completion of the program, participants will transition into a full-time Commercial or Scheduling role.
