What We Are Looking For
The Commercial Rotational program (January 2027 cohort) is designed to develop high‑potential talent into future commercial leaders. The candidate will gain functional knowledge of each department they rotate through, including Gas Scheduling, Modeling and Account Services, and understand how each department functions and interacts within the gas pipelines group and with other Kinder Morgan departments.
This full‑time program begins in January 2027 and offers an accelerated pathway into impactful commercial roles. By the end of each rotation, the candidate should understand the knowledge base provided by that position and how it relates to overall pipeline operations, enabling them to act as a confident customer representative and market the pipeline’s services.
Program Structure- Duration:
Typically 24 months - Rotations:
Three rotations lasting 6–12 months each - Areas of focus:
Gas Scheduling, Business Development Modeling, and Account Services
- Primary point of contact for customer inquiries related to natural gas transportation, scheduling, allocations, imbalances, and overseeing daily processing activities, including daily commercial activities that require nominations in third‑party systems.
- Lead special projects and contribute to testing of DART system enhancements.
- Comply with all policies and procedures set forth by NAESB and the pipelines FERC tariff.
- Use technical knowledge and productivity tools to identify trends in customer scheduling activity.
- Perform contract setup, contract charge setup, and discount entry in DART.
- Forecast assigned service types for Financial Planning and report financial results to upper management.
- Calculate estimates for service types for accounting to book accruals.
- Verify accuracy of charges for transportation invoice close.
- Perform all duties necessary for month‑end close of KMLP.
- Analyze and respond to customer inquiries.
- Model project economics to support long‑term investment decisions.
- Conduct market research of announced projects, proposed developments, and regional fundamentals.
- Develop internal and external marketing materials with the broader commercial team.
- Coordinate internal processes such as capacity reservations, agreement execution, and system design priorities.
- Perform other duties as assigned, which may vary by rotation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related discipline required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of natural‑gas industry experience in a pipeline role (entry level) or MBA/early‑career professional for the advanced track.
- Superior PC skills and strong ability to use Microsoft Office products with emphasis on Excel.
- Excellent modeling skills and ability to develop data‑analysis tools to support the role.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and team‑working skills.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Demonstrated leadership potential and initiative.
- Motivated self‑starter comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment, able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Upon successful completion of the program, participants transition into a full‑time Commercial or Scheduling role.
