Overview
Our client is a major publicly traded investment company. They are looking for a valuations senior associate to join their growing team. They are looking for someone who can bring their attention to detail, strong work ethic and organizational skills to their team and organization. They are searching for a self-starter with a positive attitude who will focus on getting the job done in an efficient and effective manner in a deadline sensitive environment.
This position will be engaged as a member of the corporate accounting and finance team primarily assisting with the quarterly valuations of investments in their portfolio companies. This role offers the opportunity to further develop valuation/finance skills, in addition to general accounting and analysis skills. As investments at fair value account for 95% of the balance sheet, the valuing of those investments is the critical part of financial reporting.
In order to value companies, the valuations group must understand company and industry current results and long‑term outlooks and report detailed information to management. As such, the group ends up being the repository of a large amount of information that is utilized by management and the rest of the company to ensure accurate accounting, financial and management reporting and a variety of other critical tasks throughout the company.
- Assist lower middle market and middle market investment groups in the preparation of quarterly portfolio company valuation models.
- Assist valuations leadership in the review of lower middle market and middle market investment models on a quarterly basis.
- Review and analyze valuation metrics/summary schedules.
- Supervise and develop valuation analysts.
- Assist in organizing and providing valuation data to external auditors and third‑party valuation consultants.
- SEC reporting (10-K, 10-Q, etc.).
- Management (internal) reporting and analysis.
- Special projects and ad hoc reporting as directed by executive management.
- Investor and Analyst presentations.
- Public accounting or public accounting / Industry combination experience is preferred.
- 4+ years of experience in banking, accounting, or related finance function is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required (Master’s in Accounting or MBA is a plus).
- Prefer candidates who currently have a CPA or CFA designation or are currently working towards one of these designations.
- Significant exposure to general accounting and financial reporting, including internal controls, is required for review of company financial statements and valuation packages (valuations / financial modeling experience is a differentiator).
- Should exhibit strong organizational and communication skills.

- Should be outgoing and exhibit strong interpersonal skills.
- Must exhibit a strong work ethic and be willing to complete projects accurately under tight deadlines.
- Must be able to multi‑task to ensure multiple deadlines are met.
- Must exhibit strong communication skills and responsiveness in order to follow up on unusual items and to communicate status.
- Strong accounting and GAAP background required.
- Should exhibit strong Microsoft Excel skills.
