As a member of Pattern Energy's Energy Settlements team, the Senior Settlement Analyst will serve as a subject matter expert for CAISO market settlements. This role is responsible for validating market revenues and charges, performing detailed shadow settlements, analyzing settlement charge codes, investigating variances, and ensuring accurate and timely settlement of market transactions. The position works closely with Energy Management, Trading, Scheduling, Risk, Data Analytics, and Accounting to optimize market revenue capture and resolve settlement issues across Pattern's renewable generation, storage, and transmission portfolio.
KeyAccountabilities
- Perform detailed shadow settlement and validation of CAISO settlement statements, charge codes, and market transactions.
- Analyze settlement variances related to:
- Energy
- Ancillary Services
- Resource Adequacy
- Congestion Revenue Rights (CRRs)
- EIM and EDAM market products
- Transmission‑related charges
- Investigate revenue leakage opportunities and identify settlement discrepancies.
- Collaborate with Scheduling Coordinators, Traders, Asset Management, and Market Operations teams to resolve settlement exceptions.
- Evaluate impacts of tariff, BPM, market design, and software changes on settlement results.
- Develop and improve automated settlement controls, reporting, and analytics.
- Support implementation and enhancement of settlement systems, ETRM platforms, and market data solutions.
- Participate in testing and implementation activities associated with CAISO market enhancements and regulatory changes.
- Prepare detailed settlement analyses for management, auditors, and internal stakeholders.
- Monitor settlement timelines and dispute opportunities to maximize revenue recovery.
- Understand power market services agreements and related contract and Energy Imbalance Market charges.
- Monitor and analyze the impact to charges as a result of any rate changes.
- Ensure the accuracy and quality of information used in downstream invoicing and reporting.
- Ensure the timely payment of power market invoices.
- Participate in daily, weekly and monthly settlement of physical and financial trading activities.
- Assist with generation of invoicing statements and cash forecasting, communicating progress with involved groups including the accounting team.
- Coordinate with stakeholders and counter parties to resolve billing disputes/discrepancies proactively and timely.
- Identify, recommend and implement process improvements.
- Ensure that monthly, quarterly, year‑end, and special project deadlines and requirements are met.
- Assist with internal control compliance duties.
- A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or equivalent major required.
- 3+ years of experience supporting ISO market settlements, energy trading settlements, market operations, scheduling, or power market analytics.
- Working knowledge of ISO settlement statements and charge code structure.
- Experience conducting settlement reconciliations and variance analysis.
- Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.
- Subject matter expertise in CAISO settlements.
