Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Gas & Power Accountant based in Houston, TX. Reporting to the Marketing Accounting Supervisor, the Gas & Power Accountant is responsible for ensuring pipeline and power payments and gas and power settlements invoicing are sent out per contract and that funds are sent and/or received timely and accurately.

Job Duties
  • Confirm monthly AR/AP invoices with 3rd‑party customers and/or vendors and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Ensure counter party settlements are reconciled to the trading system and paid on time.
  • Assist in customer disputes (pricing/volume).
  • Reconcile intercompany actualized volumes and pricing per trading systems with internal accounting teams for equity and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Perform month‑end closing procedures and submit reports on time in accordance with the department calendar and schedule.
  • Analyze trading activity and explain variances between the current month, prior month, and forecasts.
  • Prepare recurring, standard and adjusting journal entries in accordance with GAAP.
  • Collaborate with the financial analysis team for balance sheet and income statement analysis and margin tie‑outs.
  • Gather supporting documents and provide explanations for audit requests for consolidated and stand‑alone financial statements (as applicable).
  • Prepare intercompany reports.
  • Assist in testing and analysis for any new trade system implementations.
  • Document and update desk procedures for assigned tasks.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or a minimum of 21 semester hours of accounting with a business degree.
  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong ability in managing and processing large quantities of data.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and establish effective working relationships with internal operations and external customers.
  • Collaborative spirit who displays a willingness to help others and lead by example.
  • Capacity to maintain an optimistic and positive attitude.
  • Motivated, self‑directed, and results‑driven approach to work, also takes ownership of assigned tasks.
  • Ability to research and prepare analysis to respond to internal and external inquiries in a timely, professional, and thorough manner.
  • Creative thinker who can identify opportunities for continuous process improvement.
  • Ability to anticipate issues, understand their impact, and act on them in advance.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt and manage multiple priorities in a rapidly changing dynamic environment.
  • Employ fundamental accounting skills: general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and account reconciliations.
  • Working proficiency and knowledge in Excel, i.e., mining/manipulating data.
  • Initiative to consistently meet internal and external deadlines.
  • Overtime will be required during critical times.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with SAP software application.
  • Experience working in a trading system, Horizon and OATI experience are a plus.
  • Knowledge of gas and power settlements.
  • Energy marketing industry experience (2+ years).
  • Accounting experience in Energy Supply & Marketing.
