Job Description
ENTRANCE EXAM SCHEDULED FOR FEBRUARY 21, 2026
Police Cadets are non-sworn personnel who are pursuing or intend to pursue certification in a certified police academy and obtain a peace officer license with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). Individuals selected are expected to agree to serve a minimum of three years with the department after graduation. Applicants will be invited to attend the Police Officer Entrance Exam which includes the first steps in the hiring process for this position.

Police Officers ensure the safety and security of City streets, buildings, residences, and neighborhoods. Typical duties may include: maintaining readiness for emergency call response; responding to emergency calls when dispatched and taking proper action; conducting patrol; issuing citations; collecting evidence; preparing incident reports; educating staff and public on crime safety/prevention; and performing other related activities.
TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES30 semester hours of college credit with a 2.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale).
LICENSING REQUIREMENTSValid Texas driver's license.
This position is required to pass CJIS background checks from Texas DPS, and must maintain security clearance as required by agencies associated with and working for the City of West University Place.
