Non‑exempt
- Monitors general residential operations, child‑placing agencies, and selected agency homes, documents compliance, and notifies providers of corrective actions. (30%)
- Investigates complaints, allegations of minimum standard violations, and completes investigations promptly and accurately. (25%)
- Evaluates new applications for general residential operations and child‑placing agencies to issue permits. (15%)
- Identifies risk and recommends referral to Child‑Care Enforcement (CCE). (10%)
- Provides training and technical assistance to residential child‑care providers. (10%)
- Responds to emergency complaints of high‑risk situations. (5%)
- Performs other duties as assigned and required to maintain unit operations. (5%)
- Valid driver’s license, preferably in Texas.
- Knowledge of Texas laws and regulations applicable to residential child‑care.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.

- Critical thinking and risk mitigation capabilities.
- Ability to work with diverse groups promoting cultural respect.

- Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in regulatory services such as inspections and investigations is preferred.
- Inspector IVs: Experience as a regulatory inspector, complex inspection/ investigation work under limited supervision, and evidence‑secure and program improvement assessment.
- Inspector Vs: Experience as a regulatory inspector or investigator, advanced inspection/investigation work under minimal supervision, leadership or mentorship experience, and testimony or specialized training delivery.
- Work hours are flexible; occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
- Telework may qualify for 100% telework; majority of work via mobile technology.
- Travel may be required outside the headquarters area on occasion.
- Reliable transportation, valid Texas driver’s license, and adequate insurance.
- Pass a background check including criminal history and Texas Child Abuse & Neglect Registry check.
- Verification of degree(s) and/or license(s).
