Overview
PRN Physical Therapist, Inpatient Rehab Unit/Adults (Wkends) at Memorial Hermann Health System. The role involves assessing patients, developing and initiating treatment plans based on evaluations, documenting findings and progress, and providing instruction to patients and caregivers. The therapist may mentor staff and support program development, serving as a resource for assistants, students, interns, and rehabilitation technicians.
Responsibilities- Assess patients and develop and initiate treatment plans based on evaluation results, which may include neuromuscular and skeletal function measurements.
- Document findings, progress, and provide instruction to patients and caregivers.
- Provide recommendations and assist physical therapists and management with program development; serve as a resource and mentor; oversee development, guidance and training of assistants, students, interns and rehabilitation technicians with regards to individual patient care.
- Examine and evaluate a patient s current conditions for direct access, identify movement and mobility dysfunction (note: not to diagnose an illness or disease). Consider medical diagnoses established by a qualified healthcare practitioner during evaluation.
- Perform comprehensive evaluation for direct access therapists with one year of experience, and participate in plan-of-care development and progression.
- Education: Bachelor s or graduate degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited university-based Physical Therapy program.
- Licenses/Certifications: Current license to practice Physical Therapy by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or by the Physical Therapy Compact Commission;
Current Certification in Basic Life Support.
- Education: Doctoral degree with residency or fellowship, OR licensed therapist with 30 hours of continuing competence in differential diagnosis.
- Licenses/Certifications: Current license to practice Physical Therapy by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or by the Physical Therapy Compact Commission.
- One (1) year of experience preferred.
- Ability and willingness to mentor/train staff or supervise clinical interns/students.
- Clinical leadership and developing expertise for a patient type/group or an existing clinical program.
- Serve as a clinical resource for hospital/system or departmental committees/task forces; initiate or provide leadership for departmental initiatives.
- Design and implement staff development programs to facilitate clinical competencies.
- Occasional/frequent lifting up to 75/100 pounds, carrying up to 30 pounds, prolonged standing, frequent walking, stooping and squatting.
- Fine hand dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and strong communication skills (oral and written).
- Visual ability to monitor instruments and equipment, recognize alphanumeric characters, distinguish colors, and observe physical characteristics.
- Flexibility to commit to an elected schedule and move within patient care areas as needed.
- For direct access therapists, requires one year of experience.
- Assume responsibility for patient care, perform complete evaluation with physician referral, interpret findings, and develop a plan of care with goals and a comprehensive program.
- Implement treatment programs and provide advanced physical therapy, with competency in advanced skills.
- Supervise assistants and rehabilitation technicians; monitor patient progress and adjust goals and plans as indicated.
- Motivate and instruct patients and caregivers; communicate effectively with patients, caregivers, physicians, and insurers; manage time.
- Document accurately in medical records and complete other documentation duties; serve as a clinical resource and provide leadership in department initiatives.
- Demonstrate increasing expertise in treating a specific patient population; act as clinical instructor to PT and PTA interns; contribute to program development and clinical competencies.
- Supervise support staff and participate in community service as a representative of the profession.
- Present topics from professional literature in clinic meetings, rounds, conferences, or university settings as delegated.
- Ensure safe care, adhere to Memorial Hermann policies and standards, manage budget and productivity, and maintain quality service.
- Support professional growth, meet continuing education requirements, and serve as preceptor or mentor to less experienced staff.
- Demonstrate commitment to compassionate and personalized patient experiences aligned with Memorial Hermann service standards.
