Department: Clinic Enterprise Salary:

The UH Health Family Care Center is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) Look‑Alike, committed to delivering comprehensive, integrated health services to underserved populations in Houston. The center serves residents of the Greater Third Ward, East End, South Houston, and surrounding neighborhoods, while welcoming patients from across the region. Family Care Center integrates primary care, behavioral health (including psychology and psychiatry), women’s health, pediatrics, and chronic disease management.

The clinic partners with community organizations and public agencies to expand access, reduce health disparities, and support wellness in historically underserved areas. UH Health Family Care Center is positioned to scale its impact and serve as a vital anchor for community health in Houston.

Must be bilingual (English/Spanish).

Responsibilities
  • Provides administrative and clinical support to patients as delegated by health care providers. Responsible for front‑desk operations, patient scheduling, check‑in/out, collection of payments, and coverage of phone/fax lines.
  • Assists physicians, nurse practitioners, and licensed nurses with emergency and non‑emergency clinical procedures and first aid as needed.
  • Assists with general medical care, obtains vital signs, and reports the patient's condition to the provider.
  • Rooms patients, schedules patient appointments, addresses phone calls, patient check‑in/out collection of payment and performs other clerical duties as assigned.
  • Performs EKG, and other office procedures as directed by the delegating provider.
  • Monitors health equipment in exam/treatment rooms and laboratory areas.
  • Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtaining lab/x‑ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
  • Maintains clinic inventory and restocks as needed.
  • Communicates with nurse and provider regarding patient concerns, emergencies or follow up.
  • Performs simple CLIA waiver laboratory procedures including phlebotomy and collection of other specimens.
  • Prepares specimen for transfer to an off‑site lab. Records and maintains lab log and processes in EMR.
  • Participates in quality assurance projects, as well as special events and health fairs.
  • Administers appropriate immunization per CDC guidelines and/or provider order.
  • Confidentially transmits patient EMR to collaborative provider/facility.
  • Follows up with patient regarding provider's treatment plan or referral. Documents all correspondence in EMR.
  • Assists with medical exam procedures. Educates patient on use of necessary medical equipment. Administers appropriate medication as delegated by ordering provider.
  • Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Requires specialized training in basic trades, principles, procedures practice, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level. Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required. Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job‑related experience.
  • Candidates will need to be certified.
  • BLS Certification.
  • Department is willing to accept education in lieu of experience.
