The Assistant Sports Medicine Facilitator will be present at in-season athletic contests and practices and will attend other pre‑season, post‑season and off‑site contests as directed. The position is district‑based, requiring regular travel to multiple campuses and coordination with coaches and administrators.
Qualifications / Skills- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field. - Certification:
Licensed by the Texas State Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers or holds a temporary certification through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation until the final results are released. - Must meet all federal and state legal requirements for the position.
- Applied Knowledge – extensive understanding of a wide range of medical problems and the ability to work with other healthcare professionals.
- Decision‑Making – think critically and make independent decisions regarding assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and return‑to‑play per state licensure guidelines.
- Attention to Detail – thorough injury tracking and documentation.
- Interpersonal Skills – effective communication in high‑stress situations with patients, medical professionals, staff, and families.
- Organization – prioritize and perform multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
- Multi‑campus Flexibility – work across high school and middle school locations.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining an effective Sports Medicine training program district‑wide.
- Provide first aid, injury assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning for student‑athletes.
- Coordinate annual required athletic physicals and supervise clearance of injured students.
- Maintain medical and insurance records for designated feeder pattern schools.
- Establish working relationships with team physicians and community physicians.
- Communicate with District Athletics Administration, team physician(s), coaches, parents, and parents regarding athletic healthcare.
- Maintain athletic training facilities and equipment.
- Participate in training, drills, and emergency action plan reviews with coaches and teams.
- Assist coaching staff in implementing injury‑prevention programs.
- Maintain daily treatment logs and medical records.
- Equip teams district‑wide with appropriate medical equipment.
- Ensure proper fitting of protective equipment.
- Monitor and supervise student‑athletes and student‑trainers for safety.
- Develop professional development programs for CPR/AED, concussion, heat illness, and sudden cardiac death.
- Certify staff in CPR and First Aid, and maintain certificates.
- Maintain compliance with state law through required professional development.
- Onboard staff with new policies, procedures, and training initiatives.
- Administer an athletic training student‑trainer program in accordance with school guidelines and state law.
- Participate in the Concussion Oversight Team meeting, the Sports Medicine Facilitator meeting, and other scheduled meetings.
- Assist in certification of sports medicine equipment and development of student trainer workshops.
- Create district‑wide student athletic trainer curriculum standards.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for service provision.
- Collaborate with other facilitators on Rank One components and facility improvements.
- Maintain a budget and inventory for athletic training supplies and equipment.
- Order supplies through the Executive Athletic Director or designee.
- Assist with weather‑related safety plans and other assignments as directed.
