In this role, you will develop, plan, and maintain research & policy analysis. Position involves overseeing the general running of the laboratory and managing the research agenda for the area.

Position Summary

Develops, plans and manages all activities of a school/unit program(s) or project(s). Functions in a leadership capacity in the program. The Goetzl lab focuses on translational research in perinatal brain injury, exploring mechanisms of fetal brain alterations related to exposure to:
1) Hypoxia/Ischemia
2) Viral infections (e.g., Zika, CMV)
3) Psychoactive drugs and medications used by women of childbearing age (SSRI, marijuana, opiates, amphetamines).

Key Accountabilities
  • Oversees all aspects of the program activities including supply chain, budget management, grant applications and management, research administrative duties, and others. Able to work independently and as part of the team.
  • Develops, implements, and manages policies and procedures.
  • Manages annual budget, negotiates service contracts, reports on progress and/or authorizes expenditures.
  • Informs upper management of key activities and makes periodic progress reports.
  • Works closely with internal departments regarding strategy and collaborative opportunities.
  • May assist in the preparation of progress reports and grant proposals to both private foundations and governmental agencies.
  • May create and edit communications materials for the program in coordination with Public Affairs (print materials, website content, department newsletters).
  • Assists with the preparation of abstracts, posters and presentations at professional meetings.
  • Assists with recruiting and selection, hiring and terminating, training and development, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
  • Manages research administration duties including human and animal research and biosafety paperwork.
  • Orders research supplies to conduct experiments.
  • Manages calendar of research PI; coordinate didactic sessions, conferences, and educational activities for trainees; support trainees  academic and professional development.
  • Oversee the evaluation process of trainees, including performance assessments, feedback mechanisms, and evaluations from faculty; maintain accurate records of trainees  progress, milestones, and completion requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Certifications/Skills
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, including handling sensitive or confidential matters
  • Detail-oriented with superior organizational skills; proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience in graduate medical education and/or academic medicine, highly preferred
  • Experience in medical research, biological sciences, health, public health, or related area, preferred
Minimum Education
  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience in lieu of education
