Position Overview

The Clinical Health Services (CHS) Medical Assistant-Client Support Specialist (MA-CSS) will support clinical health services provided to patients by ensuring quality patient care through Family Planning Service programs. Under the clinical guidance/oversight of the CHS Advanced Practice Provider, the CHS MA-CSS will be responsible for performing both front and back office duties; all clinical tasks are in accordance with Harris County Public Health policies and procedures as delegated by the CHS Advanced Practice Provider.

This position also performs clerical front desk duties to support the clinic operations flow. This position supports the Harris County Public Health Department and reports to the CHS Program Manager. This position will service the Riverside Health Clinic by providing comprehensive medical care to all patients served.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assists with patient appointments by performing immunizations, phlebotomy (including capillary and venous draws), urine collection, pregnancy tests, lead testing, vital signs, and gathering patient histories.
  • Performs clinic front office duties; scheduling, answering phones, and checking patients in/out as needed.
  • Prepares and labels all patient specimens for transport to appropriate laboratories.
  • Provides in-room support for all clinical staff during clinic visits as needed, including assisting the provider during procedures.
  • Maintains laboratory and exam rooms in a neat, clean, and orderly manner in accordance with infection control policies, and completes monthly inventory.
  • Assists in performing data entry and electronic data processing using the HCPH electronic medical record system (Epic), Microsoft Excel, and related programs/sites.
  • Supports the coordination of scheduling patients to receive services from multidisciplinary team members.
  • Interviews clients to collect required information for eligibility determination, using grant and payer guidelines.

Education
  • Completion of a community college or business/technical school Medical Assistant program.
Language
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Experience
  • Six (6) months of experience in a healthcare setting.
Licensure/Certification s
  • American Heart Association CPR Certification.
  • Valid TX Driver's License.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong understanding of cultural competency.
