The Department of Surgery's Laboratory for Cardiac Regeneration at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a PhD-level Instructor to investigate pathophysiological mechanisms in primary pig and human heart tissues. The lab employs advanced animal models and state-of-the-art research techniques.
SummaryThe Instructor will design and lead research studies focused on cardiac molecular biology and physiology, including protocol development, data analysis, and supervision of research staff. Key responsibilities include culturing cardiomyocytes and heart tissue, applying molecular biology and physiological techniques, and managing animal models. The role also involves training students, writing grant proposals and publications, and presenting findings at scientific meetings.
Job Duties- Comprehensively execute research studies: isolate and culture cardiomyocytes from neonatal and adult animals; culture heart tissue slices from pigs and humans
- Develop and refine laboratory research directions involving application of molecular biology and physiological techniques, including the use of animal models
- Analyze and interpret experimental data to inform scientific direction
- Maintain accurate records and perform routine laboratory tasks
- Train and assist PhD students, undergraduates, and visiting researchers
- Write grant proposals and apply for early independent grants
- Prepare and submit abstracts, manuscripts, and other materials for publication
- Present research findings at local, national, and international meetings
- Stay current with relevant scientific literature
- Education Required:
PhD in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
