Townsen Memorial Hospital
is looking for a Infection Preventionist to join our team!
The Infection Preventionist is responsible for reducing the risk of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) across the health system through effective surveillance, education, and implementation of evidence-based infection prevention practices. This role conducts hospital-wide monitoring and data collection, investigates potential infection cases, and partners with staff and leadership to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and organizational protocols.
Responsibilities- Monitor and implement evidence-based infection prevention and control practices and guidelines across all facilities.
- Conduct regular rounding to evaluate cleaning, disinfection, and equipment use practices.
- Perform surveillance of hospital-acquired infections, including CAUTI, CLABSI, and Surgical Site Infections (SSI).
- Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of infectious and biohazardous medical waste.
- Track and report hand hygiene compliance, providing feedback and education as needed.
- Identify and report infection prevention opportunities, recommending process improvements and corrective actions.
- Develop and deliver infection prevention education and training programs for staff at all levels.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation of infection prevention activities and outcomes.
- Ensure timely reporting of notifiable infections and diseases to local and state health authorities.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support quality initiatives and patient safety programs.
- Perform other related tasks as needed.
- Strong knowledge of infection control principles, practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to patient safety and quality.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage and educate diverse groups of staff.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry/analysis tools.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Bachelor’s degree in health-related field
- Two (2) years of experience in infection prevention, epidemiology, or public health in a healthcare setting.
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) certified from the CBIC
